I have a kid in daycare. There is a huge continuum from "being abused" to "neglect leading to detergent swallowing" to "benign neglect" to "lukewarm supervision" to "acceptable engagement" to "well-cared for." I think most of us are probably getting care for our kids in the middle range.

This is reality. Daycare is not perfect care, hopefully it's safe care. If you are expecting daycare to be like Disneyland everyday, you are being unrealistic. These people don't love your kids, they get tired and overwhelmed by the stress of the job day in and day out. Like you would.

I have never understood parents with kids in daycare who say that the teachers love their child. Do they really believe that? I never did. I always thought they liked my child enough but I was never fooled that they were working a job and that if they were not paid they would not spend one moment with my child. I like my clients but I have no interest in them beyond my work obligations. It is a job. No, daycare workers do not love our children.

Reston has a number of Montessori schools. I would check them out. Make sure the teachers are Montessori trained and the school is accrediated.

Actually we ARE legit parents at the Simon Center. If you re-read, the detergent incident was NOT at the Simon Center. Nobody is here defending the alleged detergent incident at Bright Horizons. The parents commenting are with the Simon Center. Sounds like you must not make friends with you children's classmates' parents? Word does travel fast among a close knit community, so of course people might be flocking here to read this and want to weigh in. Have you not thought that we've already spoken with the administration about these alleged incidents and have heard the OTHER side of the story. Yes, sometimes less-than-intelligent people make terrible decisions at daycare.

Also, sometimes parents get a tiny snapshot out of context and over-react.

They aren't parents. These are owners/admin of the center. That's why it all sounds the same and are all angry, insulting and defensive.

Literally no parent gets so protective and defensive of their daycare provider that they would respond to me in such a way. Insulting me personally, moaning about how sad it is the poor daycare center gets no voice.

So, the Simon Center is sketchy as heck. Nice to know. Spread the word, DCUM.

And parents think their kids are safe in Centers over in home daycares!!! Well? Where was the safety in numbers most talk about on this board?

One thing I would love to know. WHY were they giving them cups of detergents and such to begin with? What were they expecting to do with
them?
