I have no issue with his junky cars and overgrown vegetation -- to each his own IMO. But the incessant barking from his dogs is nearly insufferable. |
This is a problem if you're near the particular home. But ALL of GEH is uninhabitable due to constant and unrelenting noise from airplanes flying at low altitude over the neighborhood. |
| It's a nice area, I like it, with old 60s houses and all, it has a character and a good vibe. However, parts of it seem perpetually damp, especially on the downhill closer to McArthur. It's a bit like a rainforest, with a ton of shade, and moss everywhere, even on the roofs. I imagine that could present some maintenance issues, and in general, not be everybody's cup of tea. But other than that it's lovely. |
+1 The airplane noise is horrible. |
The dogs are not his. They belong to the house that is catty corner to it. |
| Then we're talking about two different people. |
And those animals are still barking for hours on end. |
There is at least one dog left outside for at least 12 hours a day and barks whenever a leaf moves. The owners couldn't care less who they are disturbing day or night. People on two streets have to listen to it. |
| Goodness lots of misinfo on this thread. The teardowns in GEH and Mohican Hills have been in the 750-900 range, and most of the 750k lots were gone a few years ago. The 1/3 standard had been roughly the going model, although the construction costs rising was cutting into the 1/3 of the margin. The reason there is a lot of teardown activity is simply because the lots are relatively big in GEH compared to lots of other neighborhoods (and no covenant restrictions on redevelopment). 1/4 and 1/3 and 1/2 acre lots allow more infill of a footprint. |
Heh. That's our side, and yeah, it's damp. But we live in the woods, have a potomac view, and it's pretty quiet (even with the airplanes). |

We loved a new build there and thought it was far away from the river but planes kept going directly over every 90 seconds. Then we got stuck in the rush hour on MacArthur which wasn’t moving (it’s one lane most of the way). Gave up, very sad.
Lesson learned, visit at different times of the day, drive in the rush hour and just imagine living in the house and area before making an offer (or use your inspection period well). |
| PP = NP before someone rushes to blame the one lone crazy person who is imagining all the plane noise. It’s real. |
The airplane noise has totally ruined all of the neighborhoods along the river and close by |
| Crying shame but I don’t see it getting any better. Over time prices will suffer |
| This has got to be a joke. Glen Echo Heights is one of the nicest neighborhoods in the entire DMV area. I live in Mohican hills and NOBODY here cares or even talks about the airplane noise, it's a non-issue |
