This is truly amazing, considering that Einstein is believed to have had an IQ of 160. |
This statement completely false. Highly intelligent kids have varied personalities, just like everyone else. Some are better at entertaining themselves, some like to socialize and some are even lazy. This is such an old wives tale that seems to continually be perpetuated. +1 rubbish quote. |
No,mit's not that amazing. STandard IQ tests do not capture other talents and strengths, such as creativity and persistence. IQ measures only certain diminseions of intelligence. It does not measure wisdom, good judgment, or kindness -- any of the gifts hat make for a good person and a good like. I have an IQ of 170, but I would not say that I was anywhere as gifted as Einstein. |
If you think of your child's education as a performance then Sheridan is not the school for you...neither is GDS. |
| GDS |
I can't tell you anything specific about Sheridan kids performance on standardized tests, but my kids went to another progressive elementary and I can tell you this. It is highly doubtful that anything they do in elementary school will have any impact on how they do on timed tests in high school. How well you do on such tests depends on lots of things -- none of which have to do with progressive or traditional education in elementary school. 1) how well the student learns the material - that's most important; 2) preparation for a given tests format (SATs etc.); 3) processing speed & attention -- that is innate and not related to one's education at all; and 4) if a child has any problem with number 3, is it being remedied with extra time and/or attention deficit medication. However, the three most important things they can do in elementary school that likely will have a huge impact on how they do in high school is 1) read; 2) read more; and 3) keep reading. |
It's a mess right now. Not clear how or when or whether it'll get back on track. |
are you actually a parent at the school? |
Of course she isn't! That never stops anyone on DCUM from offering an opinion. |
Was for many years -- just left. |
Left for a better school, or left because of college/move/finances? |
| Not relevant. |
Her daughter just graduated. She is one of the Queen resident NIMBYs who has been waiting for this time to blast the school publicly on its redevelopment plans. |
Oh please! Stop! Can the crazed neighbors opposing GDS's construction plans just get all their vitriol out in one big ass post on DCUM, rather than troll every chain, waiting for someone to mention GDS so they can say something nasty? My kids don't go there, but GDS, of course, is an amazingly great school for parents to consider if looking for a school with excellent academics and that applies the progressive model----and PP should be able to provide GDS as the answer to the OP's question without triggering the predictable troll reaction. No school is perfect (and Lord knows there are pages and pages of posts on every foible of GDS, NCS, Sidwell, Holton, and one or two others that have their own dedicated trolls out to get them), but it's beyond silly to not answer GDS to the OP's question. |
Please name her---or at least more hints to unmask the troll. |
