I came to watch my DC play his game, not talk to you

It's not about how much focus you need, some people don't want to chat at every practice and game.

Then don't chat. I'm sure people are just including the OP (and PP's) in conversation to be friendly, not to distract her from watching her kid. If you don't want to chat, move away from the chatting. Other parents will get the message quickly.

But damn, watching baseball practice or games without chatting or doing anything else is so mind-numbingly boring. Even if my son were Bryce Harper I'm not sure I could manage that.

Sorry for the rudeness on this board!

This is what I was wondering. It's BASEBALL! Probably the game with the most pauses in the world.

SHH.My kid just finger painted a picture and I'm trying to focus on watching it dry. Some of us care about our children.

Don't even get me started on the moms who think it social hour at the pickup/drop off at school. If you want to chitchat get the fuck out of the way.

If you start avoiding them or pretend you are so busy that you have to be on the phone, you will seem as standoffish and uptight. Don't do this to your kid. Parents talk in front of their children about other parents' behavior. It's a sports game, not a ballet performance.

Are you serious? You must be joking. I must engage with other parents or they will gossip about me to their kids? Got it!

Yeah, my kid is on the team, I am not. Sorry. "We" do not play sports, my kids plays sports. If "we" are required to play sports, this sports thing will have to stop.

There are actually people who are interested in a 9 years old game ? Seek help soon

Maybe it's more appealing than listening to the other parents. And that's saying something.

Just make it clear that you are watching the game. Why is this so hard?

Anonymous wrote:OP you suck. don't join a team if you don't want to be social. sport IS social and you chose to have your kid participate so act accordingly too. And who cares about chatty parents, why not lend an ear. I hate people who act as if they'd rather live in a deserted island, such hypocrites.

This is utter, unmitigated bullshit.

Who appointed you chief rulemaker of all associated parents?

You sound like the hypocrite, a self-centered control freak who must tell all others how to conduct themselves. Pathetic.

Whatever you do, do NOT bring a novel to your child's game and read it during the game. That is child neglect. I learned this on DCUM.

You really need to come here to solve this, OP? I hate vent posts disguised as "I need advice" posts.

I'm a huge baseball fan and I completely agree that the game is slower than hockey/basketball. But seriously- football has just as many pauses and breaks in actual game play. To those who really like baseball, there's a ton of strategy and gamesmanship, especially as kids get older. Granted, the OP's kid is only 9 so tactics don't come into play yet. My son is playing varsity HS ball, so now there are plenty of situations to discuss-

- hit and run with runner on 1st
- stealing 2B with a runner on 3B, double steal if the catcher throws to 2B
- same scenario, the defensive team will make a call often to "fake" throw back to the pitcher to try and get the runner at 3B stealing
- down 1 run, runner on 1B, 0 outs- sac bunt to advance the runner
- suicide squeeze bunt (our coach calls this often)
- pitchers who now throw a 2seam, 4seam, change up, and curve
- how good is the catcher? can we steal easily on him?
- shifting the OF based on where a batter tends to hit
- how aggressive is the 3B coach on hits to the OF?
- batter gets down 0-2 in the count, poke/make contact into the opposite field

Baseball is a great game to watch and armchair coach, especially for dad's who have coached at younger ages. Its not so much second-guessing the HS coach, its expressing what we'd do and laugh about how many times we got XXX kid thrown out at home for being too aggressive as the 3B coach.

So if you don't enjoy baseball at the same level as me- that's totally fine. I won't assume you want to discuss THIS level of detail with me. Just don't assume that I'm interested in your new Kate Spade purse because THAT is boring as hell to me.
