Or a girl who "gets" baseball.

Or related to her late dad through baseball.

Into Thin Air

One of my most favorite movies ever.

One of my favorite books. I didn't know they'd made it into a movie.

I was gonna say -- it's not about baseball. It's about a son's relationship with his father.
But it could be a daughter. (Like the next generation in the movie.)

Million Dollar Baby.

And for a happy cry, The Color Purple. The reunion scene never fails to make me bawl, and I've seen it so many times.

Toy Story 3

DS was the same age as Andy. I thought I was going to start sobbing. Parents were walking out with tears streaming down their faces.

PP, to make you feel better, I'm in the same boat.

I find 95% of suggestions here to be catering to the lowest common denominator, art-wise. A lot of them are so bad they're almost good!

+1 surprisingly. Very sad and touching Paul Walker tribute at the end.

HAATCHI!! I cried for days, it seemed' (dog!)

watch this and try not to cry

Against my better judgment (I have an early meeting), I watched it. You're right...it got to me. My husband and I are dog lovers, and this is a beautiful and very moving story.

A walk to remember

What remains by Carole radziwell - I guarantee you will both love this and have cathartic sobs
Tiny beautiful things by Cheryl strayed (wild author) - it's a collection of dear Abby like columns except not cheesy. The advice and insights in some columns addressing certain topics is tremendously touching

These will take you outside of yourself and prob make you cry -
Silk by Alessandro Baricco
Till we have faces - cs Lewis
Gift from the sea - Anne morrow Lindbergh
The outsiders - se Hinton
One child - Torry Hayden
Lady day - the many faces of Billie Holliday
And my personal favorite, great gatsby by Fitzgerald

"The Broken Circle Breakdown" (this one, in particular, is heart wrenching)
"A Royal Affair"
"Omar"
"Nowhere in Africa"

All Academy Award nominees for Best Foreign Language film; Nowhere in Africa won the award.

"Remebrance" is another sob worthy foreign film.

PP from above:
I forgot to mention "Tracks". A quiet film, but the sobs that come at the end are very cathartic.
