Guatemalan schools will have these issues.

Milk causes sink clogs. Really?

In my experience it was the soggy cereal that clogged the sink.

Yep. It is the soggy cereal pieces that clog the sink. It would clog the toilets too and that would be infinitely worse! At our school, the kids eat in their classrooms. There isn't enough room for more than 2 grades at a time in the cafeteria so that isn't even an option.

As for obese, seditary kids with poor eating habits at home, not sure MCPS can do much more than it already is. The PE classes are infrequent and I doubt anyone is getting timed or getting their heart rates up much. PE back in the day was hardcore.

Back in which day? The PE my children are getting in elementary school is much better than the PE I got in elementary school in the 1970s. All I ever did was stand around.

in many jurisdictions food must be eaten in the cafeteria due to sanitary concerns.

I wish this was the case at my school. We have so many rodents and bugs that the kids have started naming them.

Then the county should provide free breakfast and early drop off to any student that wants it.

WIC stands for Women Infants and Children. Children are eligible for WIC until their 5th birthday. The vast majority of children in MCPS are past their 5th birthday.

(It was not very much effort to look this up.)

Dont want breakfast - tell your kid not to eat it. What the big deal???
I would love for our school to have an all-in breakfast for the kids with everyone being served at the same time. may be my kid will actually eat his breakfast that way

I cannot believe how cold-hearted people are. Children and adults ARE going hungry in this country. Even people who are lucky enough to have a job often find that those jobs don't pay enough to cover all the bills, and by feeding kids at school those families get some relief. I am DELIGHTED that my tax dollars feed kids. It makes me sad to think that the food isn't great, and I wish it was better. But I am happy that kids are getting fed.

Food stamps buy so little, people. Families really cannot feed themselves well or completely on those. Poverty sucks and I doubt that any of you really understand that.

Hey I take offense to that. It is priorities. Phone or food for my kids? I choose the iPhone 5 so I use my paycheck for that. I know the school and government will feed my kids. Why should I be held accountable??? Geez.

My kid's dad likes to give them expensive presents. He doesn't support them on a regular basis. He doesn't pay child support. I make about $30,000 a year. I could sell the shoes or phone at a pawn shop for a small fraction of the value, but it would only pay for a few school lunches and then my kids would be without a phone, shoes, or food.

I wish we could make the school food more healthy. It's so disappointing that kids aren't offered healthier options.
I see improving school food as a public health issue for everyone.

My DC attends a school that has free breakfast in the classroom. The breakfast is for all children in the school, not just the FARMS students. So yes, you could easily see my DC wearing expensive cloths and eating the breakfast. I think that means the program is working, there is no stigma associated with eating the meal. As a tax payer I have no problem with providing the meals to all. I wish that they also provided a family style hot lunch to every kid. I can't imagine ever begrudging a child, rich, poor or in between, a meal.
