Yup, I can imagine all of the people from the "much nicer" areas being horrified at the multi-million dollar mansions, old trees, hilly roads, and country clubs. So backwoods out here!

Not really. I kind of feel bad for those who think this is the be all and end all, and are so defensive about it. Its the same people who have nothing constructive to say about it but "maybe its you." You are correct, it is. When you are accustomed to nicer, VA can (!) be a step down to some. It amazes me that there are those who don't realize this, and think most others are from "fly over hell". They are not. You need to get out more. Or are you the kind that try to bash those who live in "McMansions" (your favorite word).

There are places more expensive that this area, where you get less for more. So what is your point?

Not to be snarky, but yours is kind of a free-floating post with no obvious point, other than that there might some place nicer out there somewhere, according to Someone Who Need Not Be Named, But Whose Views Deserve Our Utmost Respect. In the interim, places like Arlington and McLean seem pretty nice to me. Judging from the market, others seem to think so as well.

+1.

"step down PP," the prior PP has already eloquently provided you with a response, but I think your nonsensical post sums it up on its own: what's your point?

Exactly. If you have no point, let it go. Its not about you. Imagine that.

"22101 (McLean): Sales totaled 24, up from 23. The average sales price of $1,585,000 was up 63.2 percent, and the median sales price of $955,000 was up 16.5 percent. Homes spent an average of 81 days on the market, up from 54, and garnered 98 percent of listing price, up from 94.4 percent. There were 131 properies on the market, down from 133."

Things could be worse.

It's funny, most of those houses have curb appeal, but they ARE McMansions. The one linked to is nice outside, and horrible inside. I think the area is very picturesque, but the interiors.... However, agree, that this IS what many people around here want.

Clearly it is what PP wants. Somehow she thinks it makes her feel better to b*tch about them. Funny, she never does feel better....

If you are that close I would chose McLean for the superior schools and the name.

Having a McLean address is much more sought after. I would rather have McLean after my families name on letters than arlington.

When you are in arlington you have to explain "North Arlington" "The Good school district" "Near McLean", with McLean everyone knows it's good.

Good grief, what pretentious, self absorbed twaddle.

It's McLean. There's a reason it's McLean. But, honestly, we're all down to earth.

Ha! Nope, but it is McLean.

Meh. McLean is a destination for some, not all. Based on those I know who live in Mclean and Langley, I would take Mclean any day, OP. Tell us what you find!

No, doesn't seem that they come up often. I am checking constantly and doesn't sem there's a lot of turnover in the neighborhood. Wanted to get others' reactions/opinions/leads.

I think it is a nice neighborhood. And I think it is silly to squabble over McLean v Langley. Both are very good. If you can find a house you like in your price range, I would move quickly.

Thanks. We're far from HS kids (no kids yet) but know this is a point of contention w area parents. We considered Langley-feeder neighborhoods, too, but seems like there is little community (don't flame me!) and while we know McLean is the best or one of in the area, we'll prob go private anyway (but that's just us).

We're a young-ish couple, successful, looking to have more land, more house, and more neighborhood than we've found so far in Arlington, which we don't think really compares. Thoughts on the different areas of McLean? We like Chesterbrook b/c it's so near to DC (both work on Hill).

Chesterbrook is a great neighborhood. Great people and great homes. I'd say go for it, if you can and can afford it.

Having read this post, and going pretty far back, I would say yes- beautiful, large houses, large lots, close in, great neighborhood. Let us know what you find!
