African American kids at schools being taunted about racial features.

Language needs to evolve with the times. I mean, we don't use the word "gay" the same way they did in the 1920 and 1930s, right? Saying, "He's such a gay fellow," means something so different now then 80 years ago. Or, "What a "randy" couple." Randy now refers to a first name.

Actually, in the very old days, gay did mean effeminate. But I agree, things change.

While we are it.....lets discuss with our kids an overall compassion and emapthy for others that may be different in any way....and to be sensitive in their comments....age, weight, height, color, race, religion, disabilities, language, and on and on. And FWIW, there are many mean spirited parents on the DCUM - so be mindful that although most of the responses on this thread have been sensitive and appropriate, the comments that you have in your house behind closed doors impact and influence your children!!

OP, hang in there, after Jan 20 you won't have to worry about this any more.

I agree, I am always telling my kids to say nothing about other peoples disabilities, or physical features and so on. Later, I will get them to understand why.

Did it ever occur to you that sometimes white people are "taunted" by their features but so what??? I was constantly teased in school for having huge lips (I'm white). What did I do? I ignored what they were saying and would say how beautiful I thought I looked and thats all that mattered. So maybe instead of trying to fit in your child should be proud of their looks or maybe you could just go to a school where their are more children that look like your child. I would choose the first option.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if it was that simple? I wish it was.

Yeah, you don't get it. Bless your heart.

Don't be daft. That wasn't some sort of pick-up line! I'm a happily married (straight) woman myself. I'm merely offering a toast or a salute to someone I perceive to be a kindred spirit. The PP's wit, humor, and sense of the absurd agreed with me. You need to lighten up. (Which is not, in any way, a comment regarding the amount of melanin in your complexion.)

not daft at all as there are plenty of "happily" married straight women ISO other women

That's probably true somewhere, but it makes no sense here. The necessity of having to reveal one's name, number, or email address entirely nullifies the nature of an ANONYMOUS posting. Ergo, LOGIC should be allowed to intervene and inform one's thought processes that it was merely a friendly shout-out.

Do you really see such twisted motives behind everything people do? "Black sheep = racial insensitivity; "niggardly" = racial animus; friendly internet hat-tip = gay agenda." I feel very sorry for you.

This is the down side of DCUM. For every spark of wit and intelligence there's an equal and opposite dirtclod of dimness and pedantry.

And thank you for exhibiting that so nicely for us even if you don't realize it.

Marvelous! Another sparkle of brilliance from the politically correct and easily offended pedants. Thank you for reviving this thread - how brilliant of you! What fun we shall have!

No, actually it was the poster who said she was taunted for her big white lips who revived this thread. I'm not easily offended. I'm perhaps easily irritated by people like you though.

In that case, your decision to post a comment wasn't as clever and witty as you imagined.

Ah, the arc of a DCUM thread. OP posts a provocative opening. Some good discussion follows. Then the whole thing deteriorates into name-calling between various people who don't have any sense of humor. Then the thread dies. And good riddance. Maybe I need a personal rule to read the only first two pages of any thread!

Why do you think every comment that you don't agree with was meant to be oh so brilliant and clever and witty? Can't it just be a comment you don't agree with?

Do you think you are helping by reviving this thread? Or can we all agree to let it die now?

(And yes, I do realize this post is an offender, too.)
