What universities are for her? Advice please

No one gets into William and Mary with a 3.5. Even athletes are required to have a 3.75. I used to teach there. I know.

Also, liberal arts colleges tend to have somewhat screwed up gender ratios, and therefore it's harder to get in if you're a girl. Even if the Naviance data shows kids with below a 4.0 getting into these schools, chances are they are boys, URM's, first generation college attenders, people who recently discovered they are Native American, etc.

These are very good advices! Can't believe the boy got a 4.99 GPA, amazing!
Now for this girl, here is my list:

Reaching: Hopkins, Cornell, Carnegie, Emory
Others that she should focus on: William and Mary, VaTech, Penn State, Georgia Tech
Safety: George Mason? Purdue?

Hopkins and Cornell are way beyond reaches!

As are Carnegie Mellon and Emory. William and Mary would also be a reach. Penn State seems appropriate.

Greek life and football culture are a big turn off for lots of people. Ugh.

My impression is that there are plenty of people there who aren't Greek or infatuated with football. You sound like an awful snob.
