I can see not belonging when you have kids who take that long, 2 - 3 hour afternoon nap, but once they're done napping, I can't see how to fill that time well. |
sure, I don't mind that at all. As I said, she hasn't really been invited yet. We have had a few families mention it to us, but no one follows through on nailing down a day/time. I don't remember being asked to go until a little later on in elementary school, anyway. We're also hoping her grandparents get a house with a pool soon so we can ship her to camp grandma for a couple weeks every summer in the future. |

We join a hotel pool in DC for $300 for the summer. It is a short drive from our house. We mainly go there on evenings after camp - probably once a week. Also when we have family in town, they will take my kids to the pool.
It has definitely solidified my kids' swimming. A lot of people we know go there. It's safe, so I feel comfortable with my purse and phone on the chairs. There is a snack bar. We use city pools too - we mix it up. My DH has bad asthma and can't do indoor pools - it makes him sick. |
How do you fill it in the winter when the pool is closed? Couldn't you do many of those same things on summer weekends when the weather is ultra-hot? |
see, for $300, I would do that - Wish that were an option in the burbs. Anyone know of a place that is THAT cheap in the burbs for a summer pool membership? $500 for the summer seems to be the absolute best you can do in Fairfax. |
Mine are 6 and 8. We spent every day at the pool for swim team. After that ended in July we did camps and took a vacation. If we are at home, we are at the pool. It's 2 minutes away. The kids meet up with friends there and have the afternoon to play and swim. Joining a pool is no brainer in this area. I don't know why you would not join one unless your not into swimming. However, it is very important your children learn to swim and learn water safety. Otherwise, just never go near any water of any kind. |
It's a lot more work when the pool is closed. |
Fairfax Swimming Pool - $475 first year - drops to $400 after the first year. |
