PP here and we have made both the easy kind withput ooking and the full custard kind with cooked egg yolks, etc., and Zi atand by my original statement. Fun to do, but not better than premium all things considered. |

Ice cream maker here....if you think it's a hastle, don't do it - but I think the cost of solid premium ice cream (especially a hand packed quart at a local scoop shop) is more than making it yourself. Of course, no instant gratification....but the ingredients that make store-bought ice cream keep for as long as it does distorts the texture of the product. That's why I prefer home made. However, I'm 110% not above buying it - it's definitely easier.
I usually make it for birthday gifts, to serve with dessert when I have friends over or go to someone's house for dinner, etc. I'm going to look for Graeters tonight at the P St Whole Foods! |
| That have Graeters at Whole Foods, a couple weeks ago it was 1/2 price at $3 a carton. They have some at the Safeway in Cherrydale but only a couple of flavors. |

I got mocha chip Graeter at the P St whole foods today
-ice cream maker |
What do you think of it? Their mint chip is incredible!! Haven't had mocha. |
| WHEN I do which is not often...its the one and only Haagen Daaz Vanilla Swiss Almond, its amazing! |
Reporting back! I think the texture is very good for supermarket purchased ice cream. It's clearly got quality ingredients in it - smooth and rich. The quality of the chocolate used in their chips is also very, very good. PERSONALLY I like my "chips" to have a little crunch to them. These are more soft and melt in your mouth - which is nice, too, but I like the variation between the smooth ice cream and the crunch of the chip. It's a great flavor. Not sure I'd buy it again just because it was expensive when B&J is just fine for me for store bought! I don't know why I bought mocha because my husband hates coffee. lol. guess I have to finish it myself, but for 300 calories a serving, it's definitely a naughty list food! |
| We like Haagen Daz - the mango or caramel flavor is the only ice cream DH likes. I like the dark chocolate. DD will eat anything as long as it's called ice cream, so for something just to have in the freezer when she wants a treat, I buy Breyers when it is on sale 2 for $5. I like the simple ingredients. |
| Graeter's (I'm from Cincinnati originally) or Moorenko's (we live a few blocks from their store in Silver Spring) |
| Oh, and now that Kroger is taking over Harris Teeter, I would expect Graeter's will be available there soon so you can pick up Skyline Chili and Graeter's in one trip to the grocery. |
| Graeter's is on sale at G'town Safeway. Just bought 3 pints of vanilla, mint chip and mocha chip. |
| Trickling Springs. |
