Yes, absolutely you should stay in the crosswalk. But you should also look both ways, and be sure that it is safe to cross, before entering the crosswalk.

This is a difficult concept for kids to learn. Just because you are in the crosswalk does NOT MEAN that cars will stop for you. You need to wait until you are SURE that the cars are stopping for you, before you attempt to cross.

O, I agree. People who think they can play with their dools in the street (I've seen that), or just stand there and chat are really odd to me. Don't get me going about the bikers. You don't ned to be texting or drunk to kill someone in the road. You could have glare in your face, or macular degeneration, or a mini stroke, or bad weather, or just look away for a second and then in no time a bad accident.

I think the problem is that people are assuming that the OP is the same poster as the one(s) who later on in the thread called the mother *degenerate* and gone on to blame her and assume it was her poor parenting that was at fault here.

Valetta Bradford (that's her name btw) is NOT a degenerate. She's not a bad mother. Xzavier was doing everything right: he was crossing in the crosswalk, holding his 13 year old sisters hand (not playing in the street as other PPs who can't be bothered to find anything out about this case have just assumed). And still he was hit by a young woman who was too busy texting to pay attention.

I think all the PPs who made these assumptions saw a woman who was black and overweight with a child who's name is spelled in a nontraditional manner and decided that it was ok to blame the victim. If they'd actually watched the documentary the commercial was cut from, or hell even this short from the DOT:

I suspect people on DCUM relate to the driver rather than the victim because they are the type of assholes who text while driving and don't have their kids walk anywhere.

If someone kills someone in a crosswalk they should be prosecuted for murder.
