I dont like overnight guests

I absolutely love overnight guests. I hate having to stay at my inlaws (too small, not enough beds or baths) but don't mind being a guest elsewhere. I hate when my family does a "hit and run" on me every 6 months or so. They don't stay with us but want to come for lunch. They stay 4 hours and want a tour of our house. It's just as much work as if they stayed with us but they don't help us at all and the times are often right during my kids nap time. I hate cleaning the entire house for a hit and run. I'm getting one tomorrow and it was without notice. I'm pissed.

Why do they need a tour every time they visit? Just tell them that the house isn't tour worthy today, sorry. They're family they'll understand.

I love having guests, but don't like being one. Could it be because I run out of conversation after awhile, and I feel it is rude to just excuse myself and go to their guest room?

I hate them too But I put up with it. I am an introvert and have to be "on" all day at work. I hate coming home and have to make small talk or dinner for other people or help coordinate what they want to do.

OP, don't assume they read your mind. Tell them. It's your fault for misunderstandings if you don't say what's on your mind.
