| I attended Longwood about 15 years ago and made several trips over to Hampden Sydney. My opinion of the guys I knew where that they weren't very bright and basically had to go there because it's a private school w/low admission criteria and they weren't accepted anywhere else. Maybe things have changed now... |

| US News is showing the admissions rates at Hampden-Sydney and Longwood as 54% and 72%, respectively. Maybe H-S has become more selective in recent years. The fact that it elected a dynamic black president (Howard, not Obama) sent a message that it was prepared to move past its "to the manor born" past. |
