ear piercing

Thanks for the name calling, but AGAIN I did NOT miss the point that one is necessary and the other is not - agreed. MY point is that the pain involved in either of these actions is so minimal that you are all overreacting! They won't remember any of it when done at young ages. If your big objection of getting babies ears pierced is because of the pain and you are so overwhelmed at the pain of shots, then you are in for some major heartaches with your DC. Grow up!

That is SO interesting, that you have witnessed so many circumcisions. Are you a doctor?

That's so funny, because my son got something called "anesthesia" and did not cry at all. I mean, he peed, but he didn't cry. You must not have been at that circumcision, but since you have been to so many others, I trust you.

Putting aside all the aruguments about pain and mutilation, ear piercing infants/toddlers is just plain old cheesy and low class.

i disagree. i think it can be cute. not that i pierced by daughter's ears... but why hate on those that do? that's being judgmental over nothing.

actually, i have been to SEVERAL circs....jews call it a bris and it's a celebration on the 8th day of a baby boy's life. there is no anesthesia. but there is lots of wine for the poor mother!

thanks for asking!

Ah, having never been to a bris, I cannot comment, but I'm guessing this is where you witnessed the screaming? Perhaps mohels do not use "anesthesia," hence the screaming. Again, having never been, I would not presume to comment or pass judgment. Are the parents who invited you to witness their son's sacred covenant with God aware of your feelings and concerns on the matter?

LOL! What?! That made my morning......... I don't get people sometimes. To each his own. I love my daughther with her earrings....darn that means I am low class now. Cheesy...I am not though - I have a great sense of style.

I don't get this debate - some 6 pages later and it is still being discussed. Some people understand ear piercing and other don't. Who cares either way.

Yuck. Check this spa out. They wax "virgin hair" on young kids so you save money on future waxing and can put the money in the bank for college! Makes my stomach turn.

I'll ask it again: why do people decorate their infants and toddlers? What is your motivation for wanting to make a 2 month old "look good" (others' words in this thread, not mine).

Thank you

In my experience, people who talk about class seldom actually have it.

Has it occurred to anyone that this debate is lame? Can we let it go now? Who gives a rats a$$ about pierced ears? It is like we are debating Dafur. We ALL agree that pinning a kid down to do anything that isn't medically necessary is brutal. DONE. Please people, go do a crossword. Jeez.

Anonymous wrote:Please, please, can we go back to talking about those big floppy hair bows???!!! You know, the ones that look like elephant ears on little girls??

I refused to go with the bow. I would dress in all pink and still risk the "isn't he cute" for my little girl that barely had hair than to go with the bow. As for the earings - yes both the girls have ears pierced. It is a family tradition - Jamaican background. I was a wuss/wimp (by 3rd generation lots of traditions have gone by the wayside) BUT my mom as a present gifted me with earrings and paying for the girls to have their ears pierced. I would have had it done at the pediatrician but unfortunately ours didn't pierce ears. Anyway, I love it, the girls love their earrings and I am happy my mom gave me the nudge I needed.

are you saying you don't try to dress your child in matching, cute clothes? that does fit your description of "wanting to make your 2 month old 'look good.'" and no one would bat an eye at that.

And what is your motivation for caring at all? I agree--do a crossword or something.
