The Champ scarred me for life as a child. For life. My parents still talk about how my little sister had to come get them because I was crying so hard in the basement. I had terrible dreams for weeks. |
| The book was sadder than the movie, but when the dogs die in "Where the Red Fern Grows"...oh my god. I mean, why did (do?) they assign such books to read as 4th graders and THEN make you watch the movie?! Cruel and unusual. |

This will probably get laughed at, but...
Armageddon. The scene where Bruce Willis has to stay behind, and he sends AJ back up. And then he talks to his daughter to say goodbye. I mean, it's not on the level of TOE, but I still cry! Oh, and the death and funeral scene in A Perfect Storm. I saw that with my mom, sis, and DH when we were still dating...poor guy had 3 women surrounding him sobbing at the theater! |
This scene slays me everytime. Especially the younger son- he is kind of difficult and more cold, but then he says goodbye to her. I could just start to cry this second. |
| The movie "Reds" -- the scene at the train station when Diane Keaton is looking for Warren Beatty. Exhausted from searching for him, she is walking through the crowd on the platform, getting jostled by people, and then she sees him and they embrace as though they will never let go, sigh. |
Yes! Exactly! This movie traumatized me when I was about 5 y o. Don't even remember the end of it. |
Oh yes! And then the last scene! I'm crying just thinking about it! Sophie's choice- I wish you guys had not reminded me! Anything where families are suddenly and violently ripped apart surrounded by death or war and they are screaming for one another, there are many, many deeply upsetting movies that will rob you of your sleep and make you cling to your husband and babies like there is no tomorrow. |
| Empire of the Sun--the end when Christian Bale is reunited with his parents. Great, now I'm crying. |
+1 And then especially when he carries her out again with her voice over! ! *sob* |
I was just going to post this exact scene: his mother hugs him tight, he does not quite believe it yet, then closes his eyes! |

Just thinking about the little boy in life is beaustiful being so excited when he sees the tanks makes me so sad. that was such a (hate to say it) beautiful movie.
as a pre-teen, i'd lose it everytime i'd watch top gun and goose died.i would try fast forwarding past the actual scene, but i still cried because everyone is so sad afterwards. now that i am a mom, scenes where kids die or lose their parents are pretty unbearable. i can't watch the trailer for extremely close and incredibly loud (i might have the title wrong) without getting chocked up. september 11 things really make me sad still. |

"Love Actually"
Shouldn't be a sad scene, but when the women who is crazy about Carl finally gets him to her apartment after the Christmas party and they are about to tumble into bed. Her mentally disturbed brother calls and she chooses to talk to her brother rather than Carl and Carl leaves. Talk about a sacrifice for a sibling! The Emma Thomas/Joni Mitchell CD scene from "Love Actually" +1 Old PBS TV series about the last day of British colonial power in India post WWII. (Can't recall the name.) There are two star crossed British lovers and he is leaving her at the train station and turns to look at her. She asks "What is there to see." He looks longingly at her and says: "A great deal." I just fell apart. |
Yes & yes. |
This used to be one of my favorite movies. However, like you PP, I now have 3 sons so this movie is heartwrenching to me -- especially if I start projecting my son's personalities onto the characters (or vice-versa may be what I'm doing). Tristan?! Tristan?! Are you there?! AAAACCK~ |
