Not the Wilson teacher, but the term "general population" isn't specific to prison. Gets used all the time in statistical contexts.

I know some really bright / motivated kids at Wilson, but I could see that being true. I also have heard of kids being teased who are motivated and make it known. I'm not sure that Wilson, even the academies. has quite captured making 'school cool' like some other HS's in the area. That being said, I think there is a lot about Wilson that is cool, and probably on the down low those undermotivated kids are absorbing a lot. They're just not out front with it. We've all been at schools like that.
Depends what would work best for your child I guess, and I would also keep an eye on Wilson this year. New building-new lease on life. Could be a lot in play.
