Awesome!!!!! When is final vote? |
May 26 |
But that is after the Rapture on May 21st! Will it even matter??? |
gotta plan for all possible scenarios ![]() |
Sorry to ask yet again, but will full day kinder happen for all FFX county this year? What are the chances? |
Full day K for all of Fairfax County for school year 2011-2012 is not yet certain as of now. The final vote on the FY 2012 budget is on Thursday (May 26), when it will be known. |
all signs point to yes, all schools will get full-day K next year. But the final vote is on Thursday, so we will know for certain then. |
Talked to our registrar today-and she sounded pessimistic-I think we should all prepare ourselves for FDK not happening-remember that it has been discussed many times in the past without success, and this time may be no different despite the unwavering support from parents and teachers alike! |
I really hope it either happens for all of the "forgotten 37" or none at all-the half and half plan is not a good option and will create a lot of ill will in the community at large. |
I am trying to figure out the pessimism, since all the newspaper and blog articles I have read indicate board agreement to get this done this year and what I saw of the board work session from last thursday was people agreeing that fully implementing this program was basically a done deal. Is there some top secret 11th hour surprise that the school board is planning to spring on us? |
The FCPS budget and the proposed amendments are posted on the FCPS website. They cannot present a last minute amendment, and will not likely have the support of other board members to remove the kindergarten expansion piece, which is already included in the budget they are voting on. That said, it ain't over until the fat lady sings, so keep you eyes on Ch. 21 on the 26th. |
Doubtful |
Here's the rpoblem: Fairfax County prides itself on best this, best that, big this, big that. HOWEVER it is simply too big. Monies are going elsewhere (not hwere we want them). Priorities are askew. For years, developers ran the county. Perhaps they still do, we will never know. Fairfax County needs to get down to a managable size. There needs to be smaller, more independent governements, perhaps by town. The monies need to be allocated very differently. People will then be able to live where they feel (for example) education is a priority. Developers should kick in for public resources: roads, schools, etc. The days of running amok should well be over. It's embarrasssing that it is right outside of the nation's capitol, yet they can't seem to get it right. Damn shame. |
I don't disagree that Fairfax is too big. By population, It's bigger than my entire homestate. But I'm a little lost as to the relevance of this where full-day K is concerned? Yes, smaller local governments are more manageable, I get that, but we have to work with the system we currently have. |
Not sure why this post is being hijacked but there are problems to small as well. In Massachusetts, every single town is its own school system unless they join with another small town in a coalition. They have all the same, much worse budget problems then here. |
