private transportation service to drop off child at school?

I also struggle with the driving issue, but I'd really be worried about pedophiles in a situation like this. Who are the drivers? Are they background checked? I mean, some man driving my teenage kids around alone, ewww.

I'd just love to see 1) the therapy bills for these kids and 2) the lovely retirement facilities they find one day for these "loving" parents. Cats in the cradle anyone?

eeeewwww. I can only imagine the high self-esteem of your child who has to put up with your negative and hugely judgmental mind-set on a daily basis. If stuck in a car with you every day to and from school, I would probably want to jump in the nearest available cab. I would love to see: (1) you attending therapy to deal with your obviously very deeply seated issues regarding parenting; and (2) you challenging your notion that your kids owe you anything at all, now or in your retirement years, because you think you are taking care of them the way you should. You seem to heave a lot of issues and resentment. Good luck to you.

Maybe the hired driver can come inside the school and cheer your kids on during their sports events, plays, etc. Maybe he could even attend your parent conferences as well -- those can really be inconvenient. How about trips to the doctor? Wow, you've really hit on something here.
The next time I head to the airport, I'll just see if the driver wants to move in with us. Just think how convenient that would be.

Heaven forbid! It's so much nobler for mom to become a chauffeur.

Seriously, since when did driving become a requirement of parenthood? Luckily, no one told me or I'd be childless.

And do you feel the same way about meal preparation? Do you let STRANGERS cook for your child??? You know, like at a restaurant?

Yes, parenting MEANS driving kids everywhere and serving them meals. Yes, that is part of being a good parent. What planet do you resident on?

Earth -- you know the one that's having so many environmental problems. That's one of the reasons I don't drive. My kid takes public transportation.

The Obama girls get a free ride in the limousine.

True, but only free to them. I'm part of the 43% that actually pays for it.

Sounds like a business opportunity.

What about having the private schools with non-profit status due to the good they do for the community look for grants to transport their students to and from school? Those children would go to public school anyway if they didn't go to private schools right and they already get grants and funding.

Not just private school kids , but a lot of busy Washington parents w/ kids in public school use a driver too. My friend uses someone to take her child to Eaton on occasion and she was hooked up by word of mouth from another busy career Mom. $10 or $15 from Columbia Hghts to CP , one way.

Above poster: Seriously, your kid can't handle a ride in a cab without feeling unloved !@#! Give me a break . We all walked to school and were just fine and ypu know it. The whole country has lost its mind. My god, when I was 10 I took the metrobus , yes, in the city. I grew up to feel confident enough to travel the world, including war zones, alone. Thank god I had a mother who cut the cord at a respectable age. Your child will not shatter if he has to get a ride.

NO, parenting does NOT mean driving your kid every where. It is THAT kind of attitude that has lead to a nation where 20 somethings have parents writing their papers, their cover letters and negotiating their salaries AS 20 somethings. These young people can't do ANYTHING for themselves and it is pathetic. Next time you are in a restaurant waiting for the waitress to stop twirling her hair and checking her iPhone, THINK what these kids need is a good kick in the a**

I say bring back the school buses and refuse to pay tuition until the schools make it happen. They have the buses, you know, just sitting there in the school parking lot, but they are only used for field trips. If Calleva can do it, so can the privates. Tuition is approaching 40K; what will the market hold.
