It's nice the OP is not getting feedback that is just pure praise, but ffs it's shifted in the other direction now just to prove a point? 1600 kid is getting into UVA. |
For which point? Both are easily verifiable. Do I have to teach you how to Google? |
~0.03%, 400-500 https://allaccess.collegeboard.org/sat-still-measures-what-matters Getting a perfect 1600 is impressive even though it might not help as much for college apps in this day and age. A former Yale AO did say he had older colleagues who still would give bonus points to someone with a 1600 SAT score! |
Not necessarily. UVA is unpredictable. I know it is just an anecdote, but I know more than one kid with perfect ACT scores, very high rigor, and very close to 4.0 (private, so not weighted) who got waitlisted. Also know TO kids with high GPAs who got in. As to OP’s question, happy kid at a great school (that’s an absolute bargain) should be more important than a maybe happy kid at a maybe better school. I also wonder if AOs will question the DE classes when he wasn’t getting straight As in the earlier years (that’s not a criticism of the kid). He may look to them like a kid who got pushed to the harder track but maybe shouldn’t have. Also, if you’re in a good school and taking DE classes (especially at a CC or not great local college) instead of your rigorous HS, it may look like the kid was avoiding a hard grader or thinks he’s “too smart” to be in classes with his peers. |
See, that's just not true. Likely? Sure. But a guarantee? Not even close. This board and the entire internet is full of stories and posts by applicants with scores well into the 1500s not getting in. Do you really think that a 1600 is magical? |
Yes, especially since the kid actually wants to go there |
| 100% chance this kid gets into UVA - anyone who says otherwise is just arguing for the sake of arguing. |
You mean if he applies ED. Yea, probably. But otherwise, nope. |
You don't know that. You just don't. |
Can you provide an example of any IN STATE kid with a 1600 not getting in? I'd probably extend that to 1550 as long as there aren't some sort of other (criminal) issues. This kid is 100% getting into UVA especially if they want to be there and show the smallest interest. |
None of us can do that because none of us has access to all the data. And guess what? That includes you. Your access to the relevant data is no more or less imperfect than anyone else's, so your guess is just as much a guess as anyone's. No matter how many times you say it. |
| The coding/github stuff seems impressive to me! lol at PP saying it screams parental help - my DH and I wouldn’t have a clue how to do this! |

Relax. It’s June. This does not need to be decided now.
Make time to visit a few other schools this summer and into the fall. Late September and early October of senior year are especially good times for your DC to see yet a few more. Back off on stressing about this, and give your DC until the fall to decide. In the meantime, channel your anxious energy into planning a few summer visits and see what happens. |

Check out Imperial and Oxbridge. They will lean into test scores and demonstrated passion for the subject more so than gpa (e.g. faculty conduct interviews and make decisions).
They also administer much more rigorous exams than the SAT, I bet your DC would do well and appreciate studying with others who also did well. |
You said there could be close to 2000 score 1600 some year, please show me how to Google that out? |
