1600 SAT, 10 APs, 5 DEs, 5 college math/CS courses. Kid wants UVA ED, but I think they can aim higher?

The OPs kid has an estimated weighted GPA of 4.3 or 4.5.

The typical weighted GPA for accepted University of Virginia (UVA) students ranges from 4.3 to 4.32.

He would be accepted easily.

Just do what everybody else does: apply to a dozen or more schools & hope for the best. And don’t forget to blame Trump for any applications that get rejected.

So the student who will have to live with the decision for the rest of their life wants UVA ED? Maybe I'm a simpleton but if UVA is their dream school then ED to UVA.

Ummm, not in our experience. But good luck with that.

Oh please. He has an excellent high school record. Maybe the school gets too many qualified applicants because it’s a public school but he would easily be in the running.

Yes, why overcomplicate things?

Yes, revising from posting way earlier in this thread. The kid is 100% getting into UVA. All these posters trying to find the 1/1000 reason why not are just fishing for excuses.

In the running absolutely. Strong to very strong candidate, sure. "He would be accepted easily," I wouldn't say that.

What percentage of applicants with this kind of profile is UVA rejecting?

No one knows except the admission office. At our school, below a 4.4 and it became more of a toss-up regardless of the SAT score. More waitlists than I expected for kids with mid to high 1500 SATs. 1600 is an outlier for sure, but the GPA margins (which are school dependent) are real.
