I don’t think that’s true anymore, especially since UVA’s Medical School is under investigation by DOJ for racial discrimination in admittance and hiring (another reason why Jim Ryan was forced to resign). |
| Your google search is out of date. The decisions just posted for McIntire at the end of last week. We are looking for updated stats. None came in the letters students received. The first year GPA seems to have climbed and we are assessing where the average currently sits for admitted students, and the range. Also looking for acceptance rate for the new cohort, suspecting it continued to drop. |
I am curious how many applied this year. Probably more the half of the class, right? 75% of the class? |
| I think answers to these questions are likely to vary significantly by department. It is useful also to see what departments (for potential majors) actually offer each semester to get a sense of number and range of courses - difficulty of getting into a particular course matters a lot less when there are many other attractive options, and ease of getting classes is irrelevant if the options are limited or bad. It is shocking how little time parents or prospectives spend in looking at this information, at least if they know 2-3 majors in which they are likely to be interested. Comparisons of curricula for potential majors across schools can reveal significant differences at a level that matters most from an academic perspective. |
It has been less than 20% historically around (750/4000). Don’t think it jumped to 50% or 75% this year. |
