Like Mindy Kaling? I dont know anything about Dunham so this may be from left field. |
Interesting….yeah, I agree with you n |
Mindy is actually funny though. Lena is annoying in a Woody Allen sort of way. Not everyone’s cup of tea. |
| I really, really love the show Girls. I also find every single actress on the show to be pretty annoying in real life, but that’s ok because I don’t ever have to hang out with them. |
I am thinking of Patrick Wilson as someone who would never be with a Hannah type but slept with Hannah on the show. |
| she is very self involved |
I think they are both funny writers but prefer Lena's humor to Mindy's, who I find much more cloying. They are both from privileged backgrounds but Lena seems less entitled to me. Lena seems a little needy and like she takes herself too seriously, but I find that relatable. Mindy seems arrogant and entitled and like she's judging everyone else all the time. |
Be with and sleep with are not the same. |
Yes, Lena takes herself too seriously which is why her brand of “comedy” doesn’t work. |
But that episode was very specifically about this handsome, rich, married guy slumming it with Hannah. Like sort of the whole point was that he would never actually date her but he'd have weird daytime sex with her, whether out if boredom or attraction, who knows. The clandestine, kind of words nature of that hook up was the point, and the show never forgets that he is out if her league. Hannah forgets it, for a bit, but that's Hannah -- always happy to indulge a little fantasy about being the kind of woman she admires before crashing back to earth. |
But Girls was very funny and Too Much was also pretty good. I also used to like Lenny Letter. I think her health problems took over her life and when she started mostly just writing about those, she lost some of her humor. But a friend is reading her new memoir and says it's good, so maybe she's in a place health wise where she has done of her old mojo back. It's not for everyone but her body of work is successful enough that obviously plenty of people enjoy her humor. |
Yessss.This. |
But even the concept of a handsome rich dude slumming with someone like Lena Dunham is ridiculous. It is a Lena fantasy. |
Have you all really never seen a mismatched couple in real life? I’ve always weighed about the same as my husband; he is very lean, muscular and (I think) handsome. Since hitting menopause I weigh more than him. I wonder what people think when they see us together, sometimes, but no one knows what our interests are, our temperaments, our sex life, or the myriad things that bond a couple together. It might not be something you see everyday, but there really are plenty of mismatched couples in the standard aesthetic sense, even when the woman is less attractive. |
But I am guessing you are pretty or an attractive guy would not pick you. This is not just about a body type but an overall unattractive personality and physical combination. And you don't have to be skinny to be physically attractive. I think a little makeup and decent clothes go a long way. Being engaging helps. I missed the scenes where Hannah was ever engaging. I think Lena Dunham could be pretty but she gives off a terribly downtrodden and depressed image that would chase away most motivated and successful guys. |
