Lol she's been totally off everyone's radar for years, then she pops up with an interview and a project, and you're already "tired" of her. She really sets people off. I also find her annoying but I find many celebrities annoying. I think the hate against her is much worse because she's not pretty and people do not feel she deserves to be famous as a result.
I totally agree with this. It's fascinating. And it's that she had the nerve to write a show where she was a character with romantic partners and show herself and her body when she is not conventionally attractive. It's triggering to people.
Like Mindy Kaling? I dont know anything about Dunham so this may be from left field.
Mindy is actually funny though. Lena is annoying in a Woody Allen sort of way. Not everyone’s cup of tea.
I think they are both funny writers but prefer Lena's humor to Mindy's, who I find much more cloying. They are both from privileged backgrounds but Lena seems less entitled to me. Lena seems a little needy and like she takes herself too seriously, but I find that relatable. Mindy seems arrogant and entitled and like she's judging everyone else all the time.
Yes, Lena takes herself too seriously which is why her brand of “comedy” doesn’t work.
But Girls was very funny and Too Much was also pretty good. I also used to like Lenny Letter. I think her health problems took over her life and when she started mostly just writing about those, she lost some of her humor. But a friend is reading her new memoir and says it's good, so maybe she's in a place health wise where she has done of her old mojo back. It's not for everyone but her body of work is successful enough that obviously plenty of people enjoy her humor.
