When do you think Taylor will no longer be superintendent?

Then the BOE will lose in reelection, if anyone chooses to run for the board. If Rita Montoya won, anyone can win.

No one is running for reelection this year except for Rivera-Oven, and she's running unopposed.

It's sobering to think that school systems in Maryland are set up to give so much power to one superintendent. The BOER, votes on budget, hires/fires superintendents, and advises the superintendent. BOE is a sham institution that "oversees" over half of the county's budget.

This construct has become untenable in light of the tax burden.

Montgomery County residents HAVE to write to their state delegates and senators to FORCE change on the structure and role of the BOE if we want something different.

1) Start with making the board full-time and competitive pay

2) Give the BOE more direct oversight powers with teeth

3) Ensure the BOE has a separate and supported infrastructure and staff to truly provide meaningful oversight over MCPS

Without those changes, the BOE will continue to pretend to do oversight work and rubber stamp whatever the superintendent tells them to do.

The MCPS superintendent is the highest paid person in the state of Maryland. No change in the BOE stipend will impress him.

I never claimed pay alone would spook Taylor. That's why I proposed items 2 and 3.

2 would impact all Maryland counties. That's never going to happen.

3 the BOE already has more staff and they still just answer to Taylor. MCEA's Apple candidates are selected to be brain dead. No salary or staff is going to change that.

They are all in it for political ambitions, not MCPS and our students. The bigger issue is the county ccouncil keeps throwing money at them with no accountability.

This is not a full-time paid job. Stop making it into one. They knew what they were getting into and refuse to do their positions properly.

It is more than full-time, if done properly. Multiple billions of our tax dollars are overseen by the BOE. I'm good with substantive oversight - we need to make changes at the state level to enable this.

They have staff for all the work and no it’s not a full time job. They go to the different schools not for the BOE, but for their own campaigns. They need an outside auditor and transparency.
