embarrassed to travel abroad as an American now?

Known as a murse. Friend’s husband has a murse and designer sunglasses when traveling. I think he looks silly and is trying too hard.

Embrace the grift, thieving, war mongering and outright lying!

You forgot some of the good stuff that the 21st century "conservative" embraces:

-grabbing them by the pu$%y
-pornstars
-adultery
-multiple baby mamas
-calling service members "suckers and losers"
-bullying female reporters "quiet piggy"
-posting racist AI videos: Obama monkey video depictions
-spending more time on social media than a fourteen year-old girl
-golfing every single weekend

I could go on..

I’m old enough to remember Clinton and conservatives up in arms about his shenanigans. They’ve been pretty quiet for the last ten years.

+1 We’re abroad right now, visiting DC who is living here temporarily. We just try to be polite and respectful to everyone, and for the most part, that’s what we get back. DC has had no issues. If anything, DC gets a lot of sympathetic glances when people realize their citizenship.

+1 We were in Europe last summer and got a lot of sympathetic comments when we told them we were American.

As someone with EU family, this is rich. My ancient great uncle lives in a tiny house in the edge of the sea in a village you have definitely never heard of and the very first thing he said to us was "boy that Trump is a [expletive] moron".

Sure, some people don’t like him, but plenty of Europeans do!

Keep telling yourself that.

NP. It's simply true. I had several interactions last year in Europe where people spoke approvingly of Trump. It was bizarre and unsettling.

Again, anecdotes. There are hundreds of millions of Europeans. And the polls simply disagree with you.

I don't understand what your point is, exactly. No one is saying that all Europeans love Trump, but we are saying that we have met Europeans who do. Is it your assertion that no Europeans approve of Trump? Because that is simply incorrect.

Many posters bit my head off, insisting I was imagining things. I wasn't.

As for all the posters who swear that Trump has a lot of support among Europeans, all I can say is the polls don't bear that out at all. Obviously polls aren't perfect, but they're more reliable than anecdotes.

Depends on the country PP. The polls will look far different in France and Hungary than they will in Germany or the Netherlands.

Polls in France show Trump with negative ratings of 75 percent. I wouldn't call that support. As for Hungary, who gives a shit.
m

I’m sure those polls were take in Paris and other urban areas. The vast majority of the rural areas where the actual French people live are completely different.

Typical DCUM poster. That's your anecdote and you're sticking to it.

The "vast majority" of "actual French people" are not rural. More than 80 percent of the French population lives in cities.

Urban zones in France are defined in such a way people could live somewhere Americans would perceive as a village and be considered as part of an urban zone, so this poster is not wrong though you are also correct in terms of statistics. The 80% aren't all in huge cities. For instance I have family in a tiny 3k town, but it's technically counted as "urban" because it's in the sphere of a larger city and geographically close enough to it. You have to go far out in the mountains to not be considered urban.

I never said 80 percent live in "huge cities." You don't have to live in "huge cities" anywhere in the world to be considered urban. Green Bay, Wisconsin is "urban."

There are numerous articles on the web about the decline in population in rural France, how young folks are abandoning rural areas for the cities, and how the large majority of rural French residents are older. That's why you're seeing rural areas being far more likely to have Trump supporters. But that's not typical France.

Twenty percent of the population lives in greater Paris alone.

Green Bay, WI is a small city though. As PP explained to you, places in France with as little as 3,000 people are considered urban zones. In any event, I imagine the polls were taken largely in the biggest few French cities, like Paris, Marseille, Lille, Lyon and Toulouse. Those cities also have huge student populations, including international students, which will skew the statistics considerably. Trust me, plenty of middle aged, older French people in what we would consider rural areas are very pro Trump. Incredibly so. I live here.

So the F what. The polls take these things into account. They're not student polls, they are representative polls. No one is denying that Trump has some support in France, especially among older residents worried about immigration. That's not surprising because it's the same as here. But that does NOT mean the man is popular in France. You're like talking to a brick wall.

No, you are wrong again, simply because there is no extensive polling on American political candidates in France or other parts of Europe. And why would there be? Are Americans polled on French presidential candidates?! No. So your data is flimsy at best, and as I posited, probably heavily skewed by large urban areas which has many foreign born residents, including students. Anyway, as another PP has explained to you, many Europeans support Trump. I am one in fact (dual EU-US), but you just can’t believe it, can you? Such ignorance! We also have right wing parties in Europe yoy know. In fact, I vote for them here and for Trump in the US, but you probably still don’t believe how that could be true. Who’s the brick wall now?!

Such arrogance and ignorance once again. Europe is not a single country you know? Have you ever been here? There are 50 countries in Europe, and Trump is VERY popular in some of them (Hungary, Serbia come to mind), and deeply unpopular in others (Germany, UK, Netherlands, for example). And then he’s middle of the road in many others, including France and Italy. But again, none of this is very scientific or certain for the simple fact that, as I mentioned, there is no extensive polling of European citizens on American political candidates. You might find this hard to believe, but unless they are a dual citizen like me, Europeans cannot vote in US elections. But you’ve dug your heels in now and have to be right, dontcha PP?!

But why are you continually contradicting people who point out that some people in Europe do approve of him? Clearly all of us with anecdata are not meeting exactly the same people. Given the rise of right-wing/nationalistic sentiment in Europe, this is hardly a shocking state of affairs.

You cannot be serious. If you are, you're obtuse.

There aren't polls taken in the US of French presidential candidates because nobody in the US gives a shit about the French president because France isn't the world's superpower. The president of France means a lot less to the USA than the president of the USA means to Europe -- and the world. It's a sad but true fact. Also, I'm not talking about candidate polls, I'm talking about approval polls.

Here is the most recent yougov poll for Europe that I can find. It's consistent with other European polls and yougov has a reputation for accuracy. Put your money where your mouth is and show me some actual data that supports your view. "I live there and talk to people" doesn't count. After all, I live in Washington DC and no one I know is a Trump supporter, but I don't go around saying there aren't Trump supporters in the city or anywhere else in the US just because I don't talk to them.

We were in Eastern Europe last summer. Virtually all of the Europeans we met were pro US. They were very concerned about the Ukraine war and Putin and very happy the US is funding their protection. The border countries were starting mandatory military 3 or 6 month training for the 18 year olds. No one wants to go back to communism.
