Georgetown isn't very prestigious. Their endowment is tiny and the buildings are crumbling. Many departments are underfunded and being slashed by the university, which is going broke. How do you know it's their own? I disagree with their attention-grabbing statement about Georgetown not being prestigious, but the endowment issue they bring up is relevant.

That's nice to see that Georgetown is getting new buildings. However it's the original campus that needs some work and I see that this Public Policy building is in downtown. That does make sense for facilitating jobs though.

It's kind of an interesting coincidence that the Michigan and Georgetown buildings share an architect. The Michigan buildings are all within easy walking distance of Michigan Union/downtown Ann Arbor. The new dorms are supposed to open this fall.

Besides international affairs, GTown doesn’t have nearly the same reputation as UMich especially among other countries/states. Heck, my son’s buddy (a high stats senior in the DMV area) only heard of the school when my son mentioned the name recently!

Georgetown University’s endowment is significantly smaller than its peer elite, top-20 research institutions, often cited as one of the lowest among top-tier schools. While peer institutions possess endowments in the tens of billions, Georgetown’s endowment was approximately $3.7 billion as of late 2024. In previous assessments, the average top-20 university endowment was over $8 billion larger than Georgetown's. This endowment issue causes serious setbacks in education quality.

As a Gtown grad they're also quite financially irresponsible. That new campus in downtown DC is so ugly and undesirable, and of course, that's where they place their new Public Policy major and school. Nobody wants to live in the Capitol Campus, and Gtown knows that its all a sunk cost and is scared of that. Even the name Capitol Campus, McCort, etc is triggering for me because of how poor a decision it was on their behalf.

I actually don’t mind that campus, but as an adult and if I were attending grad school, not for undergrad.

Not a big fan of Georgetown (we're an ND family), but this post lacks credibility when they post an article from 2023 about rats (rats are always a problem in urban areas) and clearly lie about someone in DMV never hearing of the school. Someone either got rejected or has some other gripe about the school.

I never understand this logic. Just because the state heavily subsidizes to make tuition low for their residents doesn’t mean the quality of education in a state school is not worth the price compared to a private school!

+1. Michigan COA is also about $10k less per year than Georgetown, and $15k+ less than schools like USC and NYU. Not huge money but there is still a discount there.

Over 100,000 kids annually. I'm very familiar with both campuses and the vibes are very different. Some people would love the strong academics & being close-to-DC (and all that comes with that) kind of environment. Some would love the strong academics in a classic college in the midwest (and all that comes with that).
