Hopefully Mikaela overcomes her nerves for her individual events. She looked super uncomfortable in the starting gate today and there seemed to be a long delay before her start, which probably didn't help.

why that?

You find it "boring" to watch athletes ski down a mountain at 70 mph? Or to watch athletes snowboard over rails and flip into the air and land on their feet? The sports at the Winter Olympics tend to be pretty exciting, as they are not just races (like so many events at the Summer Games) but tend to have an element of danger.

Yeah, how can the PP think something like ski jumping is boring??

He is the top figure skater in the world, male or female, to ever skate.

His skills are simply incredible.

I gasped when he did that backflip. I thought that was illegal in competition, but times have changed. Incredible!

It was really the Frenchman in third place, Adam Siao Him Fa, who pushed the issues a few years ago by doing an illegal backflip and still finishing third in the world. The powers that be saw that they had to make it legal because it was so popular.

To me it’s utterly hilarious that this guy is doing a quad axel which is almost 5 revolutions in the air and basically completely impossible and everyone is gasping over backflips, when Scott Hamilton was doing backflips in Ice Capades like 40 years ago.

Spoiler alert….backflips on ice are not even considered a difficult technical move. They only count as choreo.

Surya Bonaly did the backflip landing on one leg move before any of the men, back in the 90s. Sadly, that type of athleticism was not yet appreciated in women’s figure skating and she got a lot of criticism for it.

She was criticized because backflipping was illegal at the time and she did it anyway. She was also criticized for skating like was she wearing skiis.

Some of us actually remember watching her in competitions at the time.

I loved watching surya bonali! I think it was good for me as a kid. The flip was good rule breaking imo.

One thing I will say about the Olympics is I have no idea what is happening in biathlon. It’s like they designed the little scoreboard graphic to confound me further. Who is winning? It could be anyone! It might already be over! The winner might not have started!

There was no logical reason for it to be illegal back then and legal now. I remember too. Women’s figure skating and gymnastics have both changed since then. Back then the the little petite graceful girls were favored. Athleticism wasn’t appreciated the way it is now.
