How many books did you read in 2025?

I’m a 100 book reader. I work full time and have two kids. I don’t watch any tv. I commute via metro so read there as well as a couple hours before bed each night. 10 of my 100 were audiobooks which I listened to while walking the dog. I tend to do nonfiction as audio and read way less nonfiction than fiction. Basically all of my free time was reading.

I need to start doing this.

Oddly, no one asks how people who binge watch TV shows how they possible do it.

Exactly!! People think nothing of watching several hours of tv in a day but when someone chooses to read instead no one can understand it.

My Libby list is 197, but that includes some DNF and books I’m reading now. I had kindle unlimited for a couple months and probably read another 20 or so through it. Throw in another 10 or so in hard copy and I probably came in around 200 for the year. I include audio books. I listen to books when I’m driving, taking walks, before bed, which adds up to a lot of time. I retired this year, so I’m really enjoying having more time to read!

43 is a lot!! The average American doesn't read any.

I didn't count! But I definitely read more than in 2024 and the last few years. My kids are getting older, I feel more concerned about setting an example of reading for fun off screens, and I'm turning more to sci fi and fantasy instead of starting books I think I "should" read and not being motivated to pick them up. (Reading "All Fours" for a book club with friends was the GLARING outlier. WTF?) Going to actually keep track this year.

27 finished. No audiobooks.

🙄 They don't count as reading.

I’d ask “why not?”, but someone who eyerolls while condemning audiobooks doesn’t strike me as the curious type. I’ll just leave these here in case I’m wrong and you’d like to learn why your viewpoint is limiting…

I find it so odd when people say audiobooks “don’t count”. As an author, I disagree. If you listen to my book, I’m just as overjoyed as when you read it. Are we telling blind people who listen to audiobooks they don’t count? WTF?

I read 40, my goal was 52. I don't have the attention span for audiobooks. Only 1 was a physical book, I use the Kindle and the Kindle app on my phone.

Pretty sure I read 6 books this year, unless I have forgotten a 7th. I don't keep track.

This sounds piddly to most of you, but it is 6 (or 7) more than last year, so I think it's great!

That's awesome! Good for you. As a pp pointed out, that 6-7 more than the average American.

So you read 90 books and listed to 10, like a podcast basically. That's easy.

Listening to an audio book is nothing like a podcast. Get over yourself.
