Impossible to know what happened here without GPA, AP # and ECs.

Sure .. UW4.0, most rigorous, all AP/IB +magnet, Ok EC presidents of 3 clubs - related to major

Not even UC Berkeley and UCLA? Hard to believe. Troll.

lol
Those schools don’t see scores.

Really? I thought other T20s love TO kids and 1500 and below kids? That leaves UCs to high scorers?

UCs have been test-blind for a few years now.

The system incentivized the schools to want scores as high as possible for rankings. There’s no structural incentive to care about one and done versus super score.

Shotgunning is rarely effective. Better to apply to fewer and be more thoughtful about why you want to go.

DD had 35 on ACT in one sitting. Didn’t bother taking it again. Got into T10 but I doubt her acceptance had much to do with the score. Once you are over a certain threshold (35ACT/low-mid 1500 SAT), it’s all about everything else in your application.

I don’t get kids who get such a score on first sitting and waste their time and effort on raising it by super scoring.

DS got in a few T20s last year, his counselor was surprised and told him his super high score helped him with mid grades. Two test optional schools and one test required. Counselor thought there was little chance it’s unexpected.

Apply to Georgetown. They care.

Or CS/Business /Eng and a shotgun approach so didn’t take enough time/research for Supp and not enough DI for schools that care (Duke, Northwestern, Dartmouth, Rice, WashU)?

The applicant spending additional funds and time for multiple test sittings tells you something about that person.

You are making this up. It's simply not true.

Colleges that superscore will see the superscore in Slate.

Said should give far greater weight to a "one and done" applicant.

They don't care about one-and-done, at least for SAT. ACT is different.

Why do you think this?

Some colleges superscore SAT but not ACT, primarily because ACT was designed to be a test of stamina (and speed). Schools that don't superscore ACT typically care about the highest composite score and use that in their review/admissions algorithms.

UCs don’t even accept teacher recs.

Some people on here seem desperate to hang onto the belief that the American system is just and rational. Sometimes that desperate need to justify an unjust system descends to the point that people assume some kid they don’t know must be defective. It’s appalling.

They’re all good kids. It’s a bad system. Highly-qualified kids fall through the cracks all the time.
