OP is cost sensitive. OOS at Michigan is high. |
Great list.
If I had to put a number on it, I'd guess she has a 70% chance of ED admission to UVA (but 30% events happen all the time). Agree with adding a UGA EA app. It's not really more southern than UVA or UNC, and you don't need to submit the Honors College essay by the EA deadline. Maybe UF, too, although I'm less of a fan. The other southern state schools suggested on this thread will be "too southern" for your DD, I'd guess. Reversing geography, maybe add UVM. High sticker price, but she'll get $20-25K merit and likely will be admitted to honors without additional application. Burlington isn't as far as you probably think, and it's fabulous. |
Bullshit, her chances are much higher at UVA. 95% at least. |
Bullshit, nobody has a 95% shot at uva |
Why is everyone so bullish on UVA? I’ve seen other candidates with similar stats who get dismissed by DCUM.
|
It happens every year. They’ll be crying yield protection when they don’t get in. If OP is smart, she will ignore them and add more colleges to the list. |
Because there's not space at UVA for every great kid like OP's dd. That's why its a crap shoot. |
I just checked our Naviance scattergrams for you for UVA at a mediocre FCPS HS.
There are a few denials/waitlists for SAT over 1500 and weighted GPA over 4.4 but most are acceptances. |
Sounds a lot more like 70% than 95% |
Does Naviance differentiate ED vs RD? Seems to me (anecdotally) that high stats kids who don’t get into UVA used their ED somewhere else. I’ve read this on DCUM and it also happened to our friend’s daughter. She ED’d to a top Ivy (WL) and didn’t get in to UVA RD (WL.) Didn’t apply to W&M at all. Is attending Penn State Honors. |
Those publics are third tier |
No, they’re not. But even if they were, it still makes a lot more sense to go to any of them over those ridiculously overpriced, second tier private schools for someone who is a premed major and it’s about to be spending a lot more money on medical school. OP’s list is one of the smartest I’ve seen on this website in a while. She’s not playing into the hype. Good for her. |
I am another poster. Is there a need to take 4 years of language of student already took AP level in 11th? |
Yes, in our Naviance scattergram there’s a different shape depending on RD, ED. I want to say that RD is just a check mark and EA is check with square around it, but I’m not 100%. Definitely it’s easy to spot when you have it in front of you |
If they’ve maxed out language at the school, no need to seek out more |
