How does this application strategy look?

Anonymous
In-state VA, medium size diverse public HS, weighted GPA 4.56, SAT 1510. Girl. Captain of varsity sport, 10 APs, AP scholar. Other random clubs. Intended major is undecided but possibly Bio (pre med) or Data Science or Finance.

ED: UVA
Rolling (but applying early): Pitt
EA: UNC, PSU, VT
Regular: W&M, Delaware

What would you add (or drop) to/from this list? Thoughts?

She's going to get into ED UVA no doubt. It's a good list with all but UNC guaranteed. I didn't know you could apply both ED and EA?

Add Vandy, WashU, Emory for premed

Oh please. Look at the list again. They're all public schools. Why add super expensive second tier privates, especially for premed? You people are nuts.

Add UGA if you like UVa and UNC

Yes, yes they can.

maybe Maryland, but sounds like a shoe-in for UVA ED if schedule was high rigor

I think she will get into UVA, but you could add SUNY Buffalo or SUNY Bing for strong programs at a good out of state price point

There are a handful of very highly rejective private schools that have something called SCEA or REA that prevent students from applying to other private schools EA or ED, or to any schools ED. But none of the schools on OP's list either have SCEA or REA, they have regular ED, which prevents you from applying to other schools ED but not EA, and/or regular EA which has no restrictions on where else an applicant can apply.

I think it's a good list.

OP here. I thought this too but DD has this impression (from friends, social media, not sure) that the girls there are too "dressed up" and too "southern" maybe? And yes I know UNC is southern too but she somehow thinks UGA is way more southern. DD dresses nicely and likes to look nice but also leans a decent amount on athleisure, etc. She is more Free People than Lilly Pulitzer.

Don't want to try private? maybe a few top SLAC like Wellsesley. If just public, how about UM, UCLA?
The list is really short in today's standard.

If she gets in Ed, there’s nothing additional to do. Most likely she will get in ED.

Just saying she should consider these RD in case UVA didn’t work out.

UGA fits the bill. Ole Miss and Auburn wouldn’t. You have to remember most UGA students are from metro Atlanta and a lot like DC kids.
