Everyone seems to have read the Poisonwood Bible, which I strongly disliked. Prodigal Summer is one of my all-time favorite books, and seems to be much less well-known. Go get it!

Only book that I did not like by Kingsolver was Demon Copperhead.

That is her best book. Just incredible.

I hated it! And I love her work AND David Copperfield.

I’m with you- I love her work and really didn’t like demon copperhead.

Same. Kristin Hannah's books can move me to feel emotions, which is probably a sign of strong writing, but sometimes the emotions are anger and annoyance.

I am going to cast my vote for authors that have entertained me for many many hours of my life.
I have read at least 40 books by Janet Evanovich.
I have also read at least 40 books by Debbie Macomber.

Books by Janet Evanovich take about 7 hours to read each one.
Books by Debbie Macomber take about 9 hours to read each one.
So Debbie Macomber has entertained me for at least 360 hours of my life. So I guess she is my favorite author.

I have also read everything Mary Kay Andrews has written, but she has only written 32 books.

Andre Norton was my favorite author when I was an adolescent. The dystopian Dark Piper was my favorite story. I read it several times. Runners up would be the Witch World series —a witch lost her powers if she had sex. Victory on Janus and The Zero Stone were great.

The only emotions Kristin Hannah gives me is annoyance. How could such a terrible writer hit it so big?

Totally agree. The Nick Adams stories are the only stories I’ve ever wanted to read again, and I go back and reread about every 5-10 years.

I love Shirley Jackson too!
One of my favorites of hers was Life Among the Savages/- her reminiscences of raising 4 children in VT.

Have you ever read The Sundial? It’s on my TBR list and looking forward to it.
