Williams Amherst Swarthmore. It's for snobs who don't believe that WASP is elite enough (can't take California-based Pomona seriously), even though the four schools are indistinguishable outside of location and cultural differences.

I think it depends on the Ivy. From what I can tell, there is still lots of interest in Brown. It has a reputation for a high quality of life and a culture of collaboration, which students really value these days. I also see that Cornell is very appealing to many. It has outstanding engineering and business programs, which attracts lots of interest, particularly among boys. And it's a big school, which is what a lot of students want these days. But the shine is definitely off the other Ivies, particularly Harvard and Columbia. Which is fine. There are lots of good schools in this country. Students today aren't as blinded by the Ivy brand as prior generations were.

+1 on brown, it’s also one of the reasons the LACs have seen increases in apps, students tend to like a non competitive but high opportunity environment.

The brand is not diluted but the rest of the country has moved on and realized that more than the ivy league are quality institutions.

It also doesn’t help the elite colleges’ brands that so many of the slimiest politicians attended them. From where I sit, it’s folks like Schumer, Schiff, Comey, & the Clintons. And I’m sure Dems have a list of Republicans they can’t stand who attended top schools.
