Passengers on first class tickets change their bookings around frequently, so the airline may have been able to change the seats easily due to a cancellation. |
We fly business or first all the time this is a new configuration for us and with the recent back injury from skiing we asked the agent chat what to do. |
very good on you, relying on a chatbot on top of all your other idiot moves. Do you know how they're programmed? 🤣😂 |
NP. So in what scenario was anyone going to have to climb over your husband in the middle 4 seats? |
Uh hunh. So you couldn't look at the seating chart and figure out there's no need to inconvenience anyone else since you don't have to get up? You're not helping convince anyone you're not dumb. |

Okay I think I get it now. The doctor didn't realize they had an option for lie flat seats, so assumed the best option for a seat with little recline was a window seat where the person with back issues could lean against the fuselage. Lie flats are pretty uncommon for domestic planes. And the agent didn't understand the nuances of different seat configurations either- this type of detail is something agents often get wrong. OP, call United and explain, and say you are fine with moving back to your original seats. The recline and lie flat option will meet the requirement to "off load pressure from the lower back" as per the doctors note. |
But they fly business or first ALL THE TIME! Didn't you see? They're super experienced flyers. So experienced that they have to crowdsource a non-question. |
Since OP flies business or first all the time you'd think she would have noticed they are lay flat seats. She's just dim. |
+1 This. I fly all the time, and airlines don't assign two seats to one person. |
This whole scenario is absurd. But also no one is coming to get OP’s seat, even if they originally selected it and hoped to get it. Seats can be changed by the airline at any time, as OP herself notes. It’s pretty annoying of OP to have claimed this specific need when it makes no sense as each first class seat here is identical and there is no leaning on anything, but it is what it is. OP doesn’t need to call or make any changes. And if you’re on the plane, OP, and someone wants to fight you about it (because maybe they have their own good reason for wanting that seat) you could also graciously give up your seats since it’s clear that your husband doesn’t need a window seat! |
You really think she’s going to do this?! |
And you are doing so in a manner that demonstrates you both are completely self-centered. I can see doing this if it is an emergency, but if it is just a flight you are taking for non-emergency reasons, then tough. Book a different flight. If the flight you want doesn't have the seat you want, too bad. To be as audacious as you are in bumping and inconveniencing someone else (someone with foresight), just shows you are a pretty obnoxious human being. |
Hey still have a bit of hope for humanity. |
