Why do some add nonresponsive bragging info when answering a question

Yes, this. You can say Larlo won his travel soccer whatever, but you can’t say DC is doing this amazing academic thing.

One of the parents I respect the most has kids who play travel sports at the highest level. You’d never know. I didn’t hear a peep from her about what they’ve achieved. Just vague comments about traveling out of state for the sport. The grapevine is very loud in the topic, though.
