Do tell, who are these “real genetic elites” who have 100% guaranteed intelligent children every time they procreate?

The ones who have intelligence running multiple generations back on both sides. More likely to have smart kids and more likely to raise them to be smart kids. And of course, able to conceive them naturally, because that’s what genetic fitness is all about (although with big brains come big heads - so thank Zeus we have safe cesarean sections).

That is…not how any of this works. We all have 2^N ancestors. Mathematically, most of those ancestors fall into the average area of the bell curve. Intelligence isn’t handed down intact like wealth from generation to generation. There isn’t a secret cabal of Very Smart families who vowed in the 1600s to intermarry only with each other.

Also, the big head = big intelligence theory is disproven by Matt Gaetz.

I’m not sure that Trumps is very high. Also he’s like 80 now so past his prime.

He threatened both universities with lawsuits if they released his transcripts. There’s your proof.

Yep, almost there. Maybe in 10-20 years we will basically become GATTACA. Once scientists figure out how to produce a 1,000 embryos in a lab, the gains from genetic selection for IQ will easily be around 20-30 points each generation.

Given Republicans want blood hair blue eyed only that look like MAGA and they are already stupid this should end well.

That is why this is still beneficial even if the parents are very smart. It reduces the odds that your kids will be dull.

As Democrats, we believe that our oppressor, the outsider who keeps thumping us at our own chosen game of politics, must be stupid.

I can't stand either party, but you're delusional thinking the *real* elites even give a damn about your party. Trump does not in any way, shape or form have a high IQ. He appealed to people's bigotry and racism. PERIOD. He was a an idiot in school and only got into Wharton due to his brother knowing someone. The Kardashians are very wealthy, too. That doesn't mean there are high IQs in that family. MARKETING is the key.

Peter Thiel is an uber-elitist...and he sees Obama and Clinton as ELITE. Anyone within the elite knows Trump is low IQ. Being wealthy and getting to fail upward despite bankruptcy after bankruptcy...is what "DEI" as defined by MAGAs actually is. It's why someone with OK grades but has connections, gets to have some prestigious govt position while the kid w/ a working class background who went to an Ivy by earning it and working hard and had more right to that position, doesn't get it.

You'd have to kill off the Idiocracy before you get Gattica

Yeah, I don’t think that Trump was ever very smart. Elon is probably a little above average. Multiple people that knew him have said that he’s definitely no genius.

That’s for sure.

This assumes humans have a good understanding of what drives intelligence at the genetic level. Newsflash: we don't. Intelligence is a huge amalgam of genetics, environment, and nurturing. They have no idea what network of genes will need to be manipulated to improve intelligence.

It’s a crapshoot regardless of your ancestors. And you don’t know what else you might end up with along the way, disabilities, autism, or a whole host of other genetic disorders. Selecting embryos is not a guarantee of much, but less of a lottery. I’m sure there’s places you can go if you want to tweak your embryos, although not legal.

People with the means to do this are used to being in control. When parents view their children as a set of genetic characteristics that can be hacked, and fork over a lot of cash to make it so, there is high potential for them to be disappointed (at best) and enraged (at worst) if their investment doesn't pan out.

It would be a real test of unconditional love.

Idiocracy is far more likely. The dumb will over-produce. The smart will under-produce. And inevitability, they'll elect a dumb reality tv star as president.

You don’t need to have a good understand of the underlying causal variants to select for traits. Correlations by tagging nearby variants are sufficient to select for traits. We have been doing polygenic selection for cows, chickens, and horses for 15 years now and there is no reason why it won’t work on humans as well. People that think humans are unique and not subject to the laws of nature are filling themselves because this technology makes them uncomfortable.

You are saying that it’s unethical to prevent your children from getting diabetes or cancer? That's basically what this technology can do.

You people are nuts. We are too dumb to achieve any of this. Have you been asleep for the last few months?

If anything, we are moving in the opposite direction. There will be a massive brain drain in the U.S.
