Some snobs are dismissive of popular, quality theater, but want you to go see their edgy, off-off-Broadway spoken word production. |
100% this. They are cringe-worthy! |
I've struggled with this because I don't want to stop supporting the artists and crews who actually put the shows together and the day-to-day KC employees, most of whom I am sure are horrified by what's happened. (Or maybe more selfishly because I love going to the theater!) I'm certainly going to finish out the tickets I've already purchased for the season, but have been attending decked out in protest gear (normally I would dress up, but the idea of running into the Vances in an anti-Trump tee tickles me). Not sure whether I will make new ticket purchases going forward. |
Of course, everyone is illiterate who doesn't agree with you, lol. No artist should single out and admonish an audience member. |
Exactly, who cares? Hamilton can hit the road! |
No, you are illiterate because you can't even write a single thought or a sentence. Also, no one treated Pence worse than your ilk on Jan 6. NO ONE! |
Well, I don't know that is awful but I know there are people who shrug after seeing it. It has shock value here but it's not exactly making a grand international tour. |
Why would it be popular internationally? |
The Board has historically been bipartisan. 36 board members are appointed by the president for a six-year term. There is nothing unusual about a president filling those vacancies, even near the end of his term. Trump himself did so near the end of his first term (and after it was clear he was a lame duck): https://deadline.com/2020/12/donald-trump-kennedy-center-board-of-trustees-1234652321/. Removing those members before the end of their term is completely unprecedented, and doing so to pack a board (on which Trump's appointees were already well-represented) full of your own partisans is shocking. |
If it had a compelling story? Good actors, good director, good music? You know, kind of like Lion King, Moulin Rouge, Les Miserables... |
Name another show that will bring in as much money? The KC is failing and broke. |
Springtime for Hitler. |
We saw it in London and it was very popular. Tickets were hard to come by. |
It does have a compelling story but it is a very uniquely American story. The rest of the world doesn't really care about American politicians the way you think they should. |
I don't think the rest of the world should care about American politics. But they do seem interested in a good show. Not a meh show. |
