Is the Target Boycott Really Effective?

Anonymous
If anyone here lives in Leesburg, go to the shopping center where both Target and Costco are located on a weekend. The entrance into the shopping center gives an excellent view of both parking lots.

This weekend, Target's lot was pretty empty for them and Costco's was packed. So packed that they were parking in some of the Target spaces.

"Marginalized communities" protesting for continued unfair advantages are kind of...."peeing in the wind." Corporations CAN'T give them what they want anymore, so boycotts and pressure won't be effective.

Why is being equitable illegal?

Because our president is a fragile white male who has never actually had to earn anything and doesn't want to have to start now.

It's effective helping me save money in case my husband is laid off.

Any hurt for corporations is just icing on the cake. They need to treat their staff better, pay them more, and stop listening to Republicans.

It is.

Target has seen nearly 5 million fewer shopping trips during the four weeks ending on February 9. By contrast, Costco saw nearly 7.7 million more visits during the same period.

lol they haven’t lowered their prices, if you’re going to lie at least don’t use information that’s verifiable online…

Target is meh to me. I think the junk is expensive and trendy ugly. Not my style. There were a few grocery items I liked that other stores don’t have so I will get those. They also have tons of hard to find black beauty products. I usually shop at Trader’s but went in today to get granola and it seemed very empty for a Saturday during prime hours. I am not boycotting anything though because I do what I want and don’t follow what everyone else says to do. Shrugs.

I shopped at Target AND Costco on the same day last week. There were plenty of people in Target.

And, COSTCO was packed.

This was not any different from any other time I have been to both of them. Except when I shopped at COSTCO when they opened early during COVID, it is always packed.

Costco and Target are very different stores. I like both of them and I do not shop for political reasons. I want all stores to do well--with the exceptions of those selling troubling items.

It's saved me a lot of money and I am no longer buying stuff I don't need, so it's a win win for me.

I’m still buying my kids clothes and household items at Target. I can’t buy everything at Costco, thrifting/hand me downs only go far, and I refuse to shop at Walmart and am cutting back on Amazon who have always been worse.

I have an eye appointment scheduled at Target Optical today. A receptionist called me this morning to ask that I please use the designated Target Optical entrance door instead of the store entrance doors when arriving for my appointment. I have used this same Target Optical for the past 3 years and have never received this request.

As someone who grew up working at Victoria's Secret during the peak mall years, IMO, this is Target trying to protect their conversion rates as much as possible (the number of people who enter the store during a time period vs. sales during that time period). We at VS dreaded Friday and Saturday nights because all the tweens & teens would come in to browse & play with makeup but not buy. It threw our conversion off so much and then the manager would get angry emails from the District Supervisor each Monday because they would get yelled at by corporate, ha.

My insurance has a huge hard-on for Target and gives me like zero options for pharmacies and opticians not inside of a Target. Super annoying.

There’s a target by one of the ball fields my kid’s team uses and that lot was empty. People were actually using the target parking spaces adjoining the park as overflow, which would never be possible on a normal weekend day.

As others have said, my bank account doesn’t miss my target runs. I stick to essentials at the other stores I shop now - it was so easy to go overboard at target. Win-win!

Interesting anecdote but the data says Costco is eating Target’s lunch.

And other than MAGA why should this upset anyone? The place that pays their workers $30/hour deserves more support than the place that wants taxpayers to subsidize their poverty wages… https://www.motherjones.com/food/2020/11/which-companies-have-the-highest-number-of-workers-on-medicaid-and-food-stamps/
