Dan Bongino named deputy FBI director

Yes. The cruelty is the point. These are schoolyard bullies who get their jollies from ruining everyone else's day, or life.

Which of Trump’s appointees are acceptable or at least tolerable to you?

I'll answer for myself. The labor nominee and Marco Rubio. Basically anyone normal.

Every Trump 2.0 cabinet level appointee is about what I would expect from any Republican President with the notable exceptions of Patel, Hegseth, Gabbard, RFK Jr., and now Bongino.

Agree with this assessment. The new FDA head should be interesting (in a good way) as well. But the bad ones are REALLY bad.
In the meantime, apparently if the government is trying to unilaterally cancel an otherwise legal contract with your business and you complain, the first thing that is asked is how much you have given to Trump.
The corruption and loyalty tests are reaching a level of brazenness not seen since the end of the 19th c. (you know, the period in US history where the government patronage and corruption gave rise to the civil service act . . . )

Not only won’t we have a competent FBI, we also won’t have a competent ATF since Kash Patel is taking that over as well.

New FBI Director Kash Patel will also be named acting head of the ATF

What do you consider “a competent ATF”?

Is that the ATF that was smuggling thousands of rifles into Mexico to increase drug cartel violence in order to push for gun laws here in America? Remember? Operation Fast and Furious?

Or maybe you meant the ATF that burned 70-some people to death at Waco because they were investigating allegations of child abuse? Because that has what to do with alcohol, tobacco or firearms? Was THAT the competent ATF you were referring to?

Please describe a competent ATF for us. I’d love to see one.

There it is. MAGA still holds a grudge 30 years after a terrorist group using children as human shields lost a battle against the government.

I’m pretty left of center and was outraged at what happened at Waco. You really need to read up on it, and exercise some introspection. It was a deeply horrific act by the US government.

He really is. And I’m really going to miss his presence on the radio in the afternoon.

Quite the pay cut he’s taking to serve his country. Wow.

This is the first time in the FBI’s 117 year history that a political appointee has been given the No. 2 job.

From the WSJ:

“The announcement sent shock waves through the FBI, whose new director Kash Patel had offered Republican senators private assurances that he would name a special agent with bureau experience to be his deputy, rather than a political outsider. Patel was sworn in at the White House on Friday.

Leaders of the FBI Agents Association, who met with Patel in January, said the new director had agreed that the deputy should be a current special agent to provide operational expertise and experience as well as to boost trust within the workforce, according to a Sunday email to membership that was viewed by The Wall Street Journal. The association is an employee group that represents thousands of agents.”

Of course Kash Patel lied. Most of Trump’s cabinet has problems with being law abiding and honest but Kash Patel is an extreme case even amongst this confederation of rats.

Bongino is an embarrassment to the FBI. I feel so sorry for the career staff there. Bongino is what happens when Republicans fail to do their job on “advise and consent” to Presidential nominees.

A survey of Bongino’s podcast transcripts by NBC News from 2017 to 2025 found that he made the FBI a regular target on his show, routinely claiming that the bureau colluded with the so-called deep state, an alleged shadowy network of entrenched federal and military operatives. Those themes figured heavily on “The Dan Bongino Show,” a syndicated radio show and daily podcast that is among the most popular in the U.S.

The podcaster has condemned the FBI as “irredeemably corrupt“ and called for mass firings within the bureau. Bongino, an unabashed election denier, is even on record falsely accusing the FBI of playing a role in instigating the Jan. 6 attack.

It was bungled pretty badly, but I didn’t mind too much since it got rid of David Koresh and the branch davidians. Good riddance.
