what about Bocconi University?

This couldn't be further from the truth.

My DD is a rising junior and is interested in the school on the international relations/policy/econ track which I think might be a little easier to get into than the finance/business track. She is probably around top 20% of her class at one of the local BIg X private schools. Still working on the SAT (she's a junior) but right now it's in the mid 1400s. Parents are both European.

DC got in this year with 1500 SAT and 3.94 UW GPA in 10th and 11th grade, which is what they ask for. BIEF program. Still deciding whether to attend or stay in the US (for engineering, mind you). My understanding is that it has gotten very very competitive in the past few years. I think their director of admissions posted on LinkedIn that the application numbers increased 50% from last year and quadrupled compared to 4 or 5 years ago.

That said, university and work culture are very different in Italy. Given what my female Italian friends have told me, I wouldn't send a daughter to work there.

This brings up a good point. OP, have you considered the college environment that would be best for your DC? Bocconi is top-notch academically and with respect to job prospects. The city and the student culture are unique, though, and socially it would require some adjustment. Sometimes Americans are surprised because it doesn't match their preconceptions. I would learn a bit about the Milanese and maybe spend some time there before deciding if it's a good fit.

You'd be hard pressed to find a snootier city in Europe than Milan.

not really interested in small schools and won't get into T10s.

Bocconi is an amazing school. My son studied there. He now works at an IB in NYC. Lots of Americans in the program. It is in English and Milan is a great city! He loved every minute of his experience. I would take Bocconi over most US undergraduate business schools in universities ranked over t25…

It is amazing and a great education.

IB students should be looking at this, and other Italian universities. They are excellent!

But starting from the assumptions that it is an excellent econ program and that your son intends to base his career in the US, I mention 3 things for consideration.

- much US based company internship interviewing occurs on campus soph and junior years, your son will not be as positioned for those internships

- there is value to peer connections made while in college if intending to work in a field like finance, and your son would lack much of that network

- I’d look into if his class choices will be limited, since he could only take those taught in English. (tangentially, I would question the quality if professorship at a university that primarily teaches classes in a language not its home language)

Yes, sorry to say that I went to two different Ivys and worked for JP Morgan in New York and never heard of this school either.

My favorite is “it will be hard to get recruited by American companies.”

My friend, it’s a direct pipeline to Goldman Sachs and McKinsey.
