MCPS 2 hour delay at best.

3 inches will close schools

+1 are you new to MCPS?

Yup, half-day Tues, off Wed and Thurs and back to school on Friday just in time for the Val Day parties! If you follow Chuck Bell on FB you can get good and detailed predictions for area weather.

I'm looking forward to it.

Also hearing chatter in the FCPS Safety/Security office about full closure for Tuesday 😎

When do you think they'll announce?

They’ll probably wait as late as possible today to get the latest forecast for the snow start time. If it won’t start until 3 or something, they will probably keep the school open.

I suspect they won’t want to do an early release. It always go badly, and with so many parents forced into RTO this week, it just adds another layer of chaos.

the snow totals have gone way down and it’s looking like mostly rain for most places now. if I had to guess I would only think one day closed now-Wednesday and A delay on Thursday at best for most of the area.

What forecast are you looking at? This is false.

The weather channel for Rockville MD. Showing snow starting around 1-2pm Tuesday. a total accumulation of 1-3 inches. Then stopping. Starting again on Wednesday but turning pretty quickly into rain with no snow accumulation expected. So yeah-mostly rain. And it will be above freezing too so unlikely to stick.

NP. Looks like the purple 3-6” band that CWG has us in keeps moving north. (Pink 4-7” band south of us and the 2-4” band is north of Baltimore now.) Looks to me that snowfall totals are inching up. That said, it is “still hard to pin down”.

More certainty seems to be around timing for the DC area: conditions worsening by 3:00-4:00 Tuesday with snow overnight. I am also wondering about early dismissal Tuesday, but I’ll put my money on the bet that nobody is going to school on Wednesday.

Also wanting to thank the fellow weather geeks on this thread. Keep it coming!

It's true the snowfall prediction is going down this morning, mostly because we're seeing higher temps than we thought for Tuesday during the day, which will cut into snowfall total. But no, it won't be mostly rain. Snow is still expected to accumulate during the night on Tuesday for most of us in the DC region. Maybe 3 instead of 6 inches for DC. Rain instead of wintry mix perhaps on Wednesday evening, which means better chances of school on Thursday.

Models can still change in the next 24 hrs.

The forecast for Rockville is 4-6 inches of snow. Not “mostly rain”.

not sure what weather channel you are looking at but the weather channel for rockville md most definitely says 1-3. But ok! And it doesn’t SAY mostly rain. but if you read between the lines that is what it will be. Snow and then the next snow turns into rain very quickly. It’s like you want to dig your feet in so bad that we are going to get SO MUCH snow. Might I remind you that the last “event” was also supposed to be so significant and we all woke up with nothing except some icy trees.

Lol. Calm down. I’m looking at weather.com for Rockville. The snowfall amount shows 4 inches, and the Winter Storm Watch says 4-6 inches.
