Maybe they think he'll get into an Ivy and he'll reject UMD.

Nice! Didn't know Bio is a LEP.

From what I’ve seen, no decision has meant either the application wasn’t considered complete or was considered complete but not by the EA deadline for some reason.

ugh

Is this the case? Can you pay deposit before being admitted based on app date? Used to be you could pay housing deposit to guarantee spot without accepting, but you had to be admitted first. Priority was based in deposit date. Has that changed?

Ugh, looks like the housing portal opened 24 Jan and my kid missed it but I think can still pay $50 and yes, looks like system still goes by submission date, which for my kid was like @1159 PM on the last day for early action apps

Students pursuing these majors may need to complete a series of "gateway requirements" specific to the major they are interested in. This can include completing certain courses, maintaining a specific GPA, etc. CS has no guarantee of admission even if gateway is satisfied.

I attended a college consultant presentation a few weeks ago at our high school. That college consultant came out and said he saw a lot of W schools, high stat rejections last year because of yield protection, He said the same profile of kid from a school like Watkins Mill would easily get in.

Another consultant here. UMD is not known to yield protection. That does not sound right to me.

Right. That’s not yield protection. That’s just coming from a competitive HS. Completely different.

I suspect these kids are getting A's in the class but only 3's or worse in the exam. Which shows bad grade elevation and is unlikely to impress AO's.

You’re quoting my kid’s stats. She got As in all the APs and 4/5s on the exams - submitted. No 3s. Sorry that doesn’t fit your narrative.

My narrative is that there's no value in mentioning the number of AP's without the scores. That's it. Moron.

clueless - please sit down. AP exams scores don't matter in admission.

Sure they do.

What stats for honors?

In state, 1550 SAT (800 math), 4.88/4.0
Will have an AA in mathematics this Spring when he graduates HS. 3 AP classes only because most classes have been DE.

Our daughter is in the math cohort the year behind you son with very similar stats (1560, will be NMSF, etc). Glad to see he made it through since I’ve become increasingly nervous about how hard an admit it seems to be!

Impressive ECs, but 4.5 is low for UMD coming out of MCPS
