Is it just me or has the skiing accident and death rate gone up?

I wonder how many people were killed in car accidents driving to/from ski areas during the same time period.

Over the holidays I had what wasn’t even a bad fall on a beautiful day out west on a blue run and completely tore my acl and also tore my meniscus on both sides. I’m currently post op and on crutches with a full leg brace for 6 weeks and in pt for 9 mos. It’s been a painful, frustrating, expensive and super disruptive experience that is months from wrapping up. One of my teens also has a ski injury right now. Be careful out there!

One of my DS’s good friends from ski team is hospitalized with internal bleeding, broken ribs from a fall last weekend before a race. These are very talented skiers wearing all the correct safety gear. Be careful skiing! My kids love it, but it does make me nervous.

This is a silly comment. You could say the same thing about driving to a football game, it doesn't make football less dangerous.

Agree.

The PP needs to go start her own thread.

It's not a silly comment at all. It's putting the risk of skiing into perspective based on the baseline risk that operates in the background.

It’s whataboutism.

Try to keep up.

Skiing is objectively dangerous. It’s also a leisure activity whereas most people drive because they have to
