Our DC applied for IR/poli sci. They got merit (not need) based aid of $35K per year. Tuition is $60K so that would bring it down to $25K a year tuition, which is very competitive.

Our DC, who goes to a W school in MCPS, will probably apply to American as a safety school. We've heard good things but for the just OK academic reputation it would be a pretty expensive option.

Still, decent school, lovely area, you could do worse.

No that is the COA, full cost including room & board & books. The tuition is $60-61K.

+1 I was expecting to hate it because we are local. My DD and I were pleasantly surprised at our tour and info session. The campus is nice and the kids are, too. If you aren’t from this area, the location is great. With a new President, AU will definitely be on the rise.
