It costs in the high 70sk. Not cheap but not 90k, like Georgetown.

They have made huge investment in their on campus facilities including dining and the science halls. Reputation and excitement are picking up.

I was really impressed with American when we toured. Wasn’t for my kid but I feel like DC people don’t realize that it’s a good fit for lots of reasons.

It also ranks 10th or so for IR and top 50ish for political science. I might not be eager to send my kid there for something else but for those it would be a reasonable choice.

I think the issue is the kids, ok but now greats students, that historically went there are now are going to state flagships. UVA has always been a great school but Maryland has not.

it's $81,344

Recently hired a new president with strong fund raising background, so expect it to start rising in the rankings. But better alternatives at a lower cost for now.

Other recent changes to Deans and other senior leadership too. We were impressed.

Not for first years. And some of those fees are optional.

Used to work in television journalism. Network level tons of AU and GW grads. Local news a lot of UMD.

It’s expensive and not highly ranked so its really difficult to justify paying full price (no idea how generous they are with merit).

They just installed the former JMU president as the new president so I take that as a good sign as JMU upped their game over the last decade.

The campus is very quiet and word is most kids go to downtown DC for excitement as not much is happening on campus. The commercial area of Tenley about a mile from campus is fine for some restaurants, Whole Foods and Target.

New president is a big plus. Swarthmore-educated, warm, and actually knows something about higher education. Burwell was a disaster, widely disliked.

I teach there and would absolutely send my child there. It's a great combination of research active faculty but small class size. There are a lot of great opportunities in that set up. My colleagues are good teachers who care about their students. My students have good outcomes in terms of hiring/grad school. It's a nice campus in a safe area. Lots of smart, passionate students.
