What would you advise your kid (recruited athlete or roll the dice)

"Kid wants school first and sport second"

Also if there's any hesitation at all, don't do it - the pre-read etc and offer.

But the chances that this kid will get into the Ivy are slight, so kid will likely end up at a school they like less, given that they like this one.

If the choices were between an Ivy without playing, and say Rice with playing, then that's one thing. But it's between a 5% chance of the Ivy without playing and a close to 100% chance of Rice with playing.

No this sounds like a kid who could apply to all the Ivy colleges and get one or two offers. Go for it.

Ivy schools recruit for sports too -- just don't give athletic money.

What makes me put it solidly in the troll pile is nearly all D3 recruiting occurs in the summer before senior year, yet op is claiming to have received a D3 offer a whole year earlier.

For that matter, how realistic is it that kid would have several national awards at this point in junior year.

OP here: these awards are exactly why the application will stand out in a good way. The awards are definitely not the norm. As for the offer, it is definitely contingent on a preread now, and as I said in the original post, a second one at the end of jr year.

I also have not rejected all advice. I rejected the suggestions to try and recruit thru an ivy bc that won’t work. I also rejected not giving my kid my thoughts when asked for them.

I accepted:

- make sure it is kid’s choice
- consider taking a good offer asap so it is not lost
- consider: don’t take a good offer too soon bc the kid could definitely get into a great school
- consider how hard and indefinite admissions are and go with a more sure thing

I think those are all good points, the last three are not only why I posted (bc I see it both ways) but also why the answer is probably not clear cut to my while either.

Yes, your kid is just amazing. Only kid to get a D3 athletic offer a year early. Go away troll!😈

Troll needs to familiarize themself better with D3 athletic timeline before next fabricated post.

I have a D25 Ivy recruit with a likely letter. We are familiar with some top D1 academic schools that also made offers. If your athlete is on target to meet the recruiting requirements of Ivy, contact the coach. Chances of getting into an Ivy is 5-10 percent, with perfect stats without being recruited. Make plans accordingly.

But op is claiming an extremely early (I.e. nonexistent) D3 offer.

I said in my first (and subsequent) posts- the school said it is pending the very initial preread now AND one at the end of junior year. Meaning, the offer is not official until those things are done. That is what I said the entire time…which brings kid to after junior year. This is precisely what occurred.

Right, but that still isn’t how it works. Keep trying.

I just now reverified with my kid that’s what happened. Now I am wondering if the kid misunderstood. It was in person and I was not there.
