Removing Pierce had a domino effect - more volatility in halls

I doubt Coach’s absence contributed to this week’s assault of two older students on a freshman, or any other “volatility in halls.” There are other security officers who have good relations with students.

AFAIK, he hasn’t been arrested, and while they’re in the dark too, the boys get the feeling that whatever coach did, it wasn’t horrible, though may have been against MCPS standards of conduct, triggering an investigation. Though we’re in the dark on if/when it’s completed.

I feel like if it was really bad, Pierce Sr would have chosen to leave too.

My question is…if he was removed for something like being too interventionist in something like breaking up a fight, it might lead other security officers to not want to put hands on kids to break up a fight. That video posted was weird because there is a security guard at the beginning of it, but then he’s not visible during the actual beating.

We are on the left side of a pendulum. The right side was when it was acceptable for an adult to touch a child sexually, or aggressively. The left side of that pendulum is where it's unacceptable to touch a child at all.
The middle is where an adult can restrain a child who is a threat to others, themselves or property. Let's get back to it.

Does anyone know if Pierce was ever allowed back? If not, how long do events like this last? If an MCPS employee is placed on leave, there must be a deadline for a decision to be made...correct?

Nah, they get to it when they get to it, or when parents make a stink to bring someone back or let them go, or if they’re arrested. When another Whitman team’s coach was put on leave, he was gone the whole rest of the year.

Good news- Today, Pierce is working security at Whitman again. Does anyone know if he is going to coach football too? Still no word why he was asked to take leave.
