Whitman Football Coach Fired

Anonymous
Ok - he was really only placed “on leave.” But we all know that is the first step towards the inevitable firing. Anyone know why???

Wow. That's a big deal. I wonder what he did wrong.

There is a lot of support for this coach- many players and families.

People said that about the other coaches and teachers who were fired or investigated in this cluster. There are at least 3 we know about.

I don't know anything about the football coach and hopefully it's all a big misunderstanding whatever it is but I find the families in this area to be really blind to issues because they are so focused on the outward "success" of their children.

There have been multiple hate/bias incidents this school year already at Whitman but let’s focus on football….. sigh

Coach Pierce has made a positive impact on my son, but I am not naive to the fact that he may have crossed a line somewhere. While we don’t deserve to know all the details, I think families with kids in the football program are entitled to know if his removal had anything to do with his responsibilities as the head football coach, especially given the history of coach misconduct at the school.

Are you referring to the 2014-2018 rowing coach— hosted parties with kids, had relations with minor students, and is behind bars.

There was also another coach who was investigated. Moved schools. There's an elementary school that feeds into Whitman where there was someone who got arrested for child abuse. I remember a friend telling me it was not true and organizing to defend the guy saying the school overreacted. Until the guy was arrested and charged.

Maybe he was the one who kicked down the sink and caused the flood on Monday

Or the sky was crying when he was put on leave

Maybe because the team is bad?

There are way worse high school football teams in MCPS than Whitman. A losing record isn't really a reason to fire an MCPS football coach.

There's alot of bad behavior coaches have gotten away with under the old superintendent. Not necessarily SA.

The team is currently 3-3 and would have been expected to finish 5-4 before this coaching change. Hopefully this change in events does not throw them off track.

It's not just coaches. They need to investigate the central office too. Start with the equity office.
