Happy Valley for the win

This is actually a college town so it certainly should be considered. Is there any sophisticated culture in Happy Valley? Places like Charlottesville and Athens are hard to beat because they have the college feel but also a legitimate art scene, etc. Did any famous bands originate in State College?

Uh, it’s Charleston, SC. Literally the name of the school! Great town with a lot to offer.

Great city, not at all a college town. Boston also isn’t a college town. Folks need to stop listing cities they like that just happen to have a college.

Meh. Boston is pretty much a big college town.

NP.

A city with professional sports is the opposite of a college town. College towns revolve around college sports.

No. That’s not true for colleges that DGAF about sports.

Boston has so many colleges per square mile that it’s effectively a large college town.

Those are colleges in a city, not a college town.

At least one person posting here seems to have an overly narrow view of what makes something a “college town.” Granted, others are being overly broad in their perceptions.

I believe Boston can be considered a college town though! Here’s a list from Travel + Leisure earlier this year, with some unexpected places and a few surprises. This is obviously a very subjective topic without much in the way of official metrics.

PP is weirdly rigid about her definition of "college town".

You think Chapel would be the same without UNC basketball? Blacksburg wouldn’t be on the map if not for VT football.

That may be true for some schools but it’s not true for most.

Can you name college towns in which NCAA sports do play a major role in the town?
